Thought this was a simple job but struggling to get the bloody things back on after changing seal!
Do you keep the bail arm in situe and try get the cover under it or remove bail arm totaly or half remove or ..........
Been at it an hour now

If its anything like a type 1:
    Swivel bail to lowest position
Replace rocker cover making sure the gasket is in the right place.
Swivel bail upwards to lock cover in place.
If it's too tight, use a stout screwdriver to prize the bail upwards.

  3. Great thanks just got one on!!
Was being stupid and trying to put on the way I got off
    With the bail arm up

  4. ^whs. I always use a long screwdriver to lever from the bottom.

Or just use my fingers to pull them down from the top. It depends on what mood I'm in and which engine I'm working on/which exhaust I've got fitted
    :)

  5. Great terminology....:D

  6. Thin
Think that's half the problem today I'm half stout and half human

  7. All good both on in a couple of mins
    Cheers

I don't think I've ever used "stout" on here before: No idea where it came from!

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

It's can be difficult to get them started without dislodging the gasket, I realise you've done it now, but threading some rag round the bale to pull on makes it a whole lot easier.

  11. Also check out earlier discussion on which way to prise the bail spring, up or down. It makes a difference depending on which way its fitted. If the centre section droops down then start with the spring at the top.

  12. Think it needs to become the de facto reference for this and similar jobs...:D
I always like the Haynes manual usage of "judiciuos tapping with a mallet"...as opposed to "give it a good 2@tting with a hammer, and if that fails, lever it off with a chisel and take chunks out of it"
