What a fantastic offer If it were me I’d jump at an offer like that I’m dreading building the interior for my van
Thanks for that,I'll translate the plan I have in my head into something a normal person can undertand and post it up.
I've made a quick sketch but I'm hopeless at drawing Basically it's 2 boxes without backs or bases. One is 1100 long x 400 deep x 700 high with a couple of doors at the front and a divider in the middle. The other is 1000 long x 400 deep x 800 high with a hinged lid. Many thanks
@BarryDean I've seen these on Ebay but they're a bit of a faff to keep putting in and out and they'll be pretty heavy Vauxhall Vivaro Campervan Camper van Kitchen Furniture Unit pod MDF SWB STD | eBay
Forget MDF heavy and if get moisture will expand. Let me do a drawing will send for you to take a look.
I would suggest you will need some kind of support at the back for rigidity. Would BOX 1 have a Lid/Top ? Rounded corners so you can install T Trim? Push button style handles?
BOX 2 would need support to rear as well also for hinge fixings. Why would you not want bases? I do think the softwood 'Apple Crate' or Ammo Box' style (see pictures) would be robust enough to use as a seat, No doors in front both with removable lids and potential to have foam seat on top? If you like either one I can draw one up and work out how much for materials. Is this what the boxes are intended for? What style is your van interior?
Your drawings for box 1 and box 2 are spot on, better than my fag packet job! At present it's a ply lined van with windows fitted to the rear windows, sliding door and the opposite panel. I have a 3/4 rock and roll bed and the 2 units are to go along the side of the van opposite the sliding door. The objective is for it to be a van first and foremost and a camper at weekends. It will be insulated and nicely reboarded with either carpet lining or paint finish. The seat/bed is bolted to welded anchor points and the cupboards will be the same (probably nuts on the floor). I was leaving the bases off the units until I had devised a suitable fixing solution.
You will need 2 x 8 x 4 sheets of ply, once you minus the waste the added weight is not much so you can easily use normal birch ply which would reduce cost, rather than using a lightweight product. The lids would be proud 10mm which would assist in opening and also more aesthetically inline together with the added edge trim. I could also show you how to Pocket Hole Jig the panels together to create a stable unit. (see updated LAYOUT with supports for each box added) Alcohol will be required to complete the build. Hope this helps
I was well aware of pocket hole "tech" but only discovered last year that it was something I could easily do myself with a £10 jig and a clamp. Tidy.
