Any machinists in Worcestershire/Lichfield/Birmingham area?

  1. As above. I bought these ICT manifold spacers from eurocarb but the bolt holes are a couple of mil out on both sides. I could send them back (they've measured the ones on the shelf and they are all the same unfortunately) so if I can get them elongated a touch all the better:

Buy a cheap dremel type tool and have a go

  3. I am tempted tbh. It's aluminium afterall so should go through the material rather quickly

  4. You could do it with a drill bit using the side

To answer the question, if there are no machinists in Birmingham, as an engineering nation we're boogered.

  8. File was my first thought too I just doubt I'd get a particularly neat job.

there was a spot on machinists in Redditch, proper old school engineers, CNC Precision Ltd, our go to company. Sadly they closed late 2017, sold the equipment and vanished.

  11. My local go to company also closed down this year. A bit of a trend sadly.

  12. doesnt really matter though as they'll be covered up?

  13. They would either laugh or charge you £70 an hour ..
    buy a file !!! FFS

  14. Thats not my experience. I tend to find 8/10 times places like to help out anyone keen enough to keep old vehicles going. For example, during lock down Kwik Fit pressed out and replaced bearings on two front hubs for my Beetle - no charge and I'd asked how much up front. And that's Kwik fit! During 'no business' lock down!

ETB have also given up their ramps for me to do my own emergency clutch cable change on my bus before. Im sure lots if us have had same experiences. I don't mind paying for stuff but I very rarely find people take the ******* when it comes to my old vee dubs inc my mk2 gti...

  15. Just buy a file or drill it , if you knew someone fair enough but asking a complete stranger who is trying to earn a crust for a freebie is out of order .

  16. Whoa slow down. I never said I was asking for a freebie. I was responding to the previous post. I actually said I don't mind paying for stuff /\

So to be crystal, I am seeking recommendations of machinists in the area. Not if any exist or do stuff for free. Thanks to those who have used their common sensenin figuring that out. If I was more able bodied right now drilling and filing no problem. That ok?

  17. Fair play - it was the Kwik fit episode , they work for someone else so really didn`t care - just something interesting to play with . I`ve had freebies in the past but always popped in later with a slab of beer for the lads .

Since moving to `That London` trying to get ANYTHING done properly , even at 80 quid an hour is nigh on impossible .

    Hoping you get sorted

  18. No worries. I fully expected to pay the Kwik Fit folks and was very surprised when they said on the house. I doubt it was part of their Key Worker dispensations, just being nice guys as I'd supplied all the parts.

My son has rocked up to lend a hand

  19. fair enough but I wouldn’t trust Kwik fit to fix a wheel barrow tyre . I’m a engineer / CNC machinist and I would file it or drill the holes bigger .. Are you sure they are Aluminium as look like steel to me

As @Dazza said. A Dremel would make short and neat work of this.
Such a useful tool, you won’t regret buying one.
