  1. floor standers as part of my set up, any tips?

Have bit the bullet and gone for the the latest Yamaha rxv671 7.2 amp, Kef kht1005.2 5.1 surround speakers and want to add some floor standers as my front speakers either side of the 42" panasonic plasma, good idea or not????

budget 200 max, whats recommended, either used or new??

seen some kef Q35s for 50 quid locally

  2. appaently the kefs are very good

what about some mission m33i's if you can still get them?

  3. yeah kefs are top, got a good deal on the surrounds and the amp, which packs a punch

just undecided on the floor standers, dont fancy shelling out hundreds for a new set, used ones can go cheap, but not sure which ones to go for

  4. look on ebay?

i fancy some mission 753,s, old now but in thier day they were amazing.

    tanny are also good speakers

have a look on on the what hi fi website perhaps, richer sounds sometimes have some reasonable deals

  5. ive been into richer sounds today, nothing took my fancy, only ones that where outta my price range, seen some kef q35s second hand which are priced at 50 quid, prob worth a punt, where 350 new

I got some floors standers years ago and I reckon if you have the space they look really business-like either side of a TV.

I like KEF, Castle, Celestion - all did good speakers which should still be good even if they are a few years old. I've got some Celestions that are 34 years old that still sound good!

Bit out of touch on new stuff I must admit - try to avoid mags to keep away from temptation :-

  8. I've got the same amp its cracking 8) I've got kefs Q1's as back speakers and walfdale vargus 400's floor standing as fronts either side of my Sony 48" backlit LED, kef centre speaker and yamaha active subs X2
brilliant sound , makes the whole house rumble... Harry Potter sound fanatical through my set up ;D

  11. the geeks on the AVforum are telling me i need a matching centre, otherwise my floorstanders would be out of place with the small kef centre!!!! any ideas if that right

  13. FInd a good hi fi store, tell them what you have and what you are looking for and your budget. If they are any good they will have a listening room for you to try out the options.

Be careful though, the last time I tried that was 15 years ago, I had a £300 budget for a CD player and came out the proud owner of a £1200 Naim CD player.
