Humour has an important role in times of great sadness. I think the Charlie Hebdo staff might have raised a smile at it. Maybe not, but it's irreverent humour at the expense of the terrorist killed, and I'm not that worried about hurting his feelings really.
Now that would make a great cartoon wouldn't it? Humour , and Charlie Ebdo's in specific, is at the heart of this remember. I think he would have liked to have been ironic with his own response to this.
Don't get me wrong, they deserved all they got but in my opinion and it's only my opinion a fire fight isn't something that needs showing on TV, especially live TV
True. Because at the end of the day, it's someones relative in there. But, it makes "great" TV, and that's why they show it. It annoys me more that the news channels show the build up live when it needs to be a secretive operation.
I agree, but there came a point when everyone was watching these things on the net and the News programmes were looking a bit lightweight.
A fire fight is a truly terrifying thing, not something that should be glamorised but again that's just my opinion. Another reason they shouldn't be so widely shown is that it gives away far too much information to the terrorist next in line, keep the bastards in the dark and you'll save lives of the good guys in the future. As I've no doubt mentioned before, during the Falklands war the role us divers had included moving 1000lb UXBs from ships that the Argies dropped. The reason most of these didn't go off is because they didn't have time to fully prime, there was a small propeller that started unwinding as soon as they left the plane. Because the Argentinian pilots came in so low when they were attacking us and the armourers had set these at fully in they didn't detonate. Very good for us , yes, well until the BBC world service proudly announced this gem of information, you can guess the carnage that followed that, cue the Sir Galahad and Sir Tristram. Keep the bastards in the dark as much a you can!
Totally agree . I have mentioned in other posts, since the advent of 24 hour news and social media etc etc the airtime needs to be filled! Sky news is the worst for filling crap all day long. Some things should be kept secret until at least the situation is contained. In the end the scum got their publicity and plenty of photos of them onthe news didn't they? As an aside , did you know we had the Prime Minister visit my work yesterday. My desk was about 12 feet from where he presented. Personally I dont care much for what he said etc but it was the first time I have seen TV camera crew etc setting up behind me (no chance of any fekin work btw!) all day and seeing the 'theatre' behind such an event. You dont see all this with an excerpt on the telly but when you have the full picture things are definitely different! Did you notice how MI5 boss jumped on the opportunity to say how big a threat is in UK and they need more powers etc etc.
Some are shouting don't show but is that not doing the same as the terrorists is stopping the freedom of the press. Should there be a line? Where would the line be? Whom could draw such a line?
There were some of the cartoons on the National Secular Society website, they were berating our press as a whole for not showing solidarity by not also reprinting the Charlie Hebdo cartoons. Personally I would have like our press to have all shown the cartoons, but I can see why they didn't. The Jyllands Posten which got into trouble for publishing cartoons of Mohammed previously didn't reprint any either. The editors admitted that by doing so they were giving in to threats and intimidation
