An unusual memorial

Apologies if people have seen this.

A young man left to fight in WWI and chained his bike to a tree. He never made it home and his family left the bike by the tree in his memory.

That's got to be unique, I'd treat it to preserve it or it won't be there in 50 yrars.

 

They knew how the build things to last back then .

On a practical level, why do you preserve a thing like that? You must be fighting a constsant rust battle.
