Alternator lights on dash seem to take longer to go out

  1. When starting the engine the alternator lights seem to take longer to go out. They used to extinguish immediately. I have a new alternator fitted earlier this year. New 5 year Bosch battery around june. If I rev the engine a bit they go out.

    Any suggestions?

  2. Normal,dont worry about it.

  3. Yes, my alternator light goes out about 30 seconds after starting.

  4. This is potentially very serious and nuns and kittens may die.
Check your fan belt isn't twisted before starting it up again.

snotty and Top Banana Racing like this.
  5. Don't worry about it, it's just the relay/switch being a bit slow. They all get like that.
Check the fan belt just in case it's turned, slipping or shredded.

Get a type 5 then eventually, loads of lights will come on and not go out. ;)

You could try cleaning up the bulb holder and connectors

  8. Yep, this. Or change the alternator bulb. 30 seconds is too long.

  9. I have to give my bus a wee rev, when it first starts, to make the alternator light go out. It's been like this for years. Still charges the main and leisure batterys ok.
