Air-cooled Addition

  1. I succumbed to this beauty over the weekend - 67 vintage, that I managed to persuade the wife was what she always wanted :D PO has done all the hard work, body off resto and a 1641 TP.

Picking her up Thursday and have a 180 mile drive home, so will get a feel if she is reliable to become my daily driver

  7. Lol - the wheels are worth almost as much as the car. Original Lemmerz Sprints. The PO is a lovely guy - really VW-nut with an OCD crush on wheels and I think it hurt him as much to see the wheels go as the car. He has an Early-Bay and has just bought a Notchback and his wife told him to pick 2 out of the 3 to raise the funds he needs to resto the other 2. I spent 2 hours with him and you could see he has put his heart and soul into the resto - nice thing is his wife has been using it as her daily and done 6,000 in last year (and he is a mechanic with a lot of VW experience). Hoping I have bought a good 'un - lots of photo history of resto, piles of receipts etc and brand new MOT. When I bought my Bay 2 years ago, the first job was to replace the engine, so I have learned a lot of hard lessons that I hope will have paid off with this one - I knew what endfloat was this time and would not have fallen for the same excuses about oily engine bays that I got suckered with when I bought the Bay. I will find out on Thursday, as I have to drive over Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor on the way home, so lots of up and down. ;)

  11. This is what the Beetle looked like when the PO bought her.

She was solid but he has put a lot of time into getting her back in one piece. Can't wait for the drive home.

  13. Getting acquainted:

Nasty drive home yesterday - blowing a hoolie in Cornwall, but made it with no intervention by the AA :)

Beetle has a few rough edges, but all the hard work has been done. So looking forward to some sunshine

he likes his VW to be perfect , he was changing the plugs and tweeking the engine ready for your drive home on tuesday afternoon

  18. Yes, I mentioned there was a Latebayer in Fowey and he knew who straight away. Seems like a good guy and he has put in a lot of hours getting the bug up to this condition - nice to deal with a genuine enthusiast and he had tons of photo history of the resto.

I was a bit worried that this photo was from Tuesday at first  but then noticed that it still had the old wheels on, so I guess this is from a while back?

Seems like a good solid bug - pity that Paul unclipped the heat exchangers (he had them wired up for on when I took it for a test drive on a lovely sunny sunday) - bloomin freezing yesterday and the heat would have been welcome ;-)

  19. Paul is one PO you wont be wanting to throw news paper and filler at

the only down side to him is he's not very good with computers and never starts a build diary on our local forum to show us what he's up to, we have to call round and drink his coffee to see progress
