Once again, the annual stress of putting Hoot in for her MOT. Did the final checks this morning, and took her for the drive to the MOT station. Asked the tester to be nice to the old girl, and he laughed! Is that a good sign??? Oh well means summer is on the way ;D
Thanks guys, Never used to get so stressed with other old cars, but for some reason after all the work we seem to put into these buses, it makes having some MOT inspector crawl all over your work more stressfull!
Fail but only on a couple of small things. 1. The track rod end ball joint had excessive play. can't reall complain, it was one of the only things I didn't overhaul when I bought the bus. and 2, Parking brake efficiency was belw requirments at 10% ( not really too sure what that means) any way he said the rear breaks were fine with the foot pedal, just crap with the hand brake. Think I'll adjust the cables and then run the bus for a bit (it's been off the road over the winter so it was her first run) Was going to fail on rear wheel bearings, but once I explained that they are suposed to have a little bit of play, and showed him the hynes manual it was changed to an advisory. All in all not too bad
If the handbrake comes out more than about 2", adjust the rear shoes before adjusting the cables, but I don't think tightening the cables will help - tester will still pull the lever the same. It's more likely the cables are partially seized.
Woooohhhhoooooo! She passed! I know it's silly to get so stressed. but all over for another year! Good luck to everyone else going through MOT hell!
