  1. i need to buy a set of rocker covers and clips for my 1600cc engine as my clips look like they are going to snap and the covers have been welded up at some point. whats peoples experience with after market ones i think iam going to go for the alloy ribbed ones for around £30 i know there are better ones out there but iam trying to keep the costs down are these worth getting or iam i going to be leaking oil with these cheers

  2. Why not stick with the bog standard VW steel covers...at £7 a time they are somewhat cheaper than the aftermarket ones. Good enough for VW otherwise they would have gone for finned to start with .

  3. ^what fritt said. Pukka VW covers and spring bails aren't that pricey, and they won't piddle oil all over the place.

  4. i didnt relise they where still available i see some repo steel ones have you a link for the vw ones cheers

  5. Try GSF. The originals are still around, although they're likely Brazilian these days.

  6. ive got a gsf round the corner from me they have repo one,s for a fiver i googled the gsf one,s and found a post where someone could not get them to seal, ive looked on vw heritage they have vw brazil clips but the covers are repo they would come to £20 plus postage i would really like to find some vw but i cant thats why i was thinking of using the alloy ones as they come in just under £30 including postage and thought they might not be as flimsy

  7. Can't see why they wouldn't seal unless the bails aren't tight enough and/or new gasket wasn't used? Its only a lump of tin - if the dimensions are the same it should fit without an issue?

  8. don't get the alloy ribbed ones, they will be w. ank...
    :)

  9. bog standard ..from cool air .....thats the best a man can get ...sung like the advert

  10.
  11. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Alloy ones leak. Get yourself some new spring clips and standard covers and save yourself the grief. :)

  12. Sorry to rake this up again but I've recently fitted new cork gaskets and I'm getting a small drip of oil, would you suggest new spring clips would sort this but the tart in me really fancies a set of those shiny stainless scat ones! hmmmm shiny ::)

 funds are low it may have to be new clips & gaskets for now and save the shiny bits for when I've won the lottery...

So basically will the new spring clips sort the drip of oil?

    ...Robo...

  13. The tart in you will have to put up with oil piddling out...

Stock covers, cork gaskets, new spring bails. There's no reason at all why they should leak.

  14. i ended up fitting gsf rocker covers and new clips i used cork gaskets not sure what make they were as i already had them, fitted them with a smear of grease and they are fine no leaks
