  1. Hi guy's i am contemplating changing my exhaust for possibly an aftermarket exhaust ? but am i going to lose the use of my heat exhanger's in swapping to one as this is my only real thing that is niggly at the back of my head?

  5. You can still keep your heat exchangers with an aftermarket exhaust dude

Id like to see an aftermarket exhaust that has the little pods on the top that the original exhaust header had
so you could have the heating system just as vw intended but have the advantage of a more free flowing exhaust

  6. You won't lose your heat.

I'd say if you're sticking with a single, original carb, stick with a stock exhaust.

  8. Why's that? ???

  9. Just seen your pic - do you really want one? If you do a lot of cruising, 4-into-1s can get mighty boomy...drives you nuts.

And the cheap ones rust like fu...billyo...

  10. No point freeing up the exit of exhaust gasses if the inlet of air and fuel is still restrictive

  11. Ooops.

Really on a van with a stock centre-mounted carb, you don't get any real advantage in power, because the engine can't breath very well.

Got twin carbs, a different story...then a less restrictive exhaust makes more sense.

TBH, I hate mine (a JK stainless) - it booms just at cruising speed - drives me nuts.

Edit: paradox beat me to it :D

  12. Why do you want an aftermarket exhaust?

  13. so would it better to just get the silent pack one then? I am not too bothered about noise as i have a mk3 coupe polo with a tubular mani and straight through exhaust and that thing scream's and i have been to scotland, cornwall, wale's in it but it does get a bit annoying on a motorway sometime's but around town is great! 8) And my old one has been attacked with some very bad welding! and is really beyond repairing!

  14. A stock Ernst won't cost very much ;). An EMPI will rot before your eyes...

  15. I've got an Empi single quiet pack on mine, i love the sound it makes! Its been on for a couple years now and it getting a bit rusty but its lasted longer than i expected!
