After you got your van, what changed?

  1. after we bought our van, i realised just how rusty it was and how we didnt notice any when we bought it and how straight it was.... I am now skint but well happy. Oh and now when people stare at me when we drive past in the bus, i dont shout what you lookin at any more, its a hard habit to change but ive nearly completed my transition from evil to good. Thanks vw.

I've got back out into the countryside, because now, when we are off work we think 'Where shall we take the van?' and it usually involves a walk and a brew on return. Been rediscovering the places we used to go to in the peak district.

Main thing though is the number of new friends we have been making - with TLBers and with the people who just come up to talk to us :)

  5. My wife hated my previous motoring hobbies of classic cars and motorbikes and sailing etc. She wanted the camper and now gives me todo lists and checks on progress. In fairness hse did make the new upholstery and curtains, then said "I'm finished how are you doing?". My list got longer. We love it!

  7. By inspiring us to get out more, going to VW shows and going camping, it has improved my marriage. We were drifting apart from lack of quality time together. Now we can get away at a moment's notice without need of money for hotels or restaurants. It really has rejuvenated our relationship.
I have also discovered that it really is much better to take the back roads and drive under 60mph. (bloody coffin-dodgers are always right, damn them) I fought it tooth and nail at first until I finally broke like a wild horse being saddle trained. I just gave up one day and accepted the thing I could not change.
Ya know, you really do see more of the country this way. There is also far less stress, nobody to dodge, flip-off, or honk at, no lines of cars all struggling to get around you, etc,... We stop for icecream and historical markers and things and the next thing you know you're there! It actually seems faster! And amazingly, it really only adds on an extra hour or so.
    That
was a life-changing discovery for this
    old speed-crazed maniac.
