I presume we already have an alarm fitted with flashing light, steering wheel lock and possibly a wheel clamp, neither if which stops them taking it, bolt it to the floor at least it will still be there when you get home,

Or at least the beam will be

  4. Yeah and we've seen how expensive new beams are. You don't wanna lose one of them! :hattip:

We had a quote for a CCTV system in 2017......

    .....................................................................................

    1) The professional IP CCTV system would comprise of :-

1 x Hikvision DS-7608 - 4 TB, an eight camera IP Network Video Recorder (NVR).
4 x Hikvision 3MP External Turret network camera (Ultra high resolution), day / night (colour / monochrome) mini dome camera complete with Infra red lighting and a 4 mm fixed lens.
    1 x Network Connection,
1 x HDMI CCTV to TV connection,
1 x All fixings, power and video connecting cables to complete the installation to your satisfaction.

The eight camera Hikvision DS-7608 - 4 TB professional NVR I have specified is a very user friendly, cost effective and highly recommended IP recorder, it has many features built in such as a high definition video streaming network, live view from smart phone or internet, multi screen functions and USB outlet for backing up and storing data.

The 4 TB NVR with four cameras attached will achieve a back up and recording history of between 30 and 60 days of continuous recording (Depending on user settings) before overwriting.

The four Hikvision 3MP External network cameras in the quotation are excellent quality, ultra high resolution cameras which give an excellent level of clarity and quality in day and night conditions, the cameras specified are vandal resistant, 3MP cameras with additional LED lighting.

All the four cameras will be installed as requested to view the perimeter of the building encompassing all the vulnerable areas indicated on our site inspection.
The cameras will be cabled around the building to the designated monitoring point and connected to the Hikvision NVR and your existing TV.

The cost to supply, install and commission the above professional high definition CCTV system to your satisfaction would be £1497.32.

    .......................................................................................

I was however then given an old A-Data system

so purchased 4 cheap cameras from Aldi (not the best quality image but what do you expect for a penny less than £20)

An old computer monitor was retrieved and we managed to get CCTV for under £80

However we now have electric gates

And a somewhat lazy Boxer dog

  7. Hikvision are the goto's btw. Mine were Hikvision style but at 1/2 the price for each camera and a self-provisioned server running freeware.
I thoroughly recommend the Hikvision equipment if one has the means, but any camera system is 100% better than none.

  8. See, no offense, but I believe that's a mistake. Relying on a company whose raison d'etre is to make money by taking premiums and avoid paying out is folly.
Remember that post up there ^ where I said the cops did nothing when my motorbike was stolen and neighbours knew who it was?

Well, the insurance company refused to pay out and at that age and financial status it was a tough pill to swallow. I couldn't even afford legal advice to challenge them.

No offence taken, but to me it's not. Faff around with wheel clamps, chains, flashing lights? No thanks.
Why did your insurer refuse to pay out?

  10. If you are looking at easy install anker do CCTV worth looking at

  11. Policy said garaged during night hours. Insurance company said it was outside and was probably stolen during the night (it wasn't). I made some initial free legal advice enquiries which the result was "they can't refuse to pay out legally, but they can reduce the amount paid-out according to the extra risk which could be almost nothing, and oh this (some extraordinary sum) is how much it will cost you for me to pursue it".

If CCTV was so effective then there would be no footage of various crimes, as filmed on CCTV.

I agree having cameras visible can be a visual deterrent of sorts....but they are a known quantity (from a location point of view) and as they are rarely if ever live monitored, they are at best passive.

Takes 5 seconds to pull a hood up and run a bit of tape over a number plate.

People, on the other hand, especially if there are more than one, even more so if they have camera phones are waaaaaay more of a deterrent, and word gets around.

  13. If it’s within you grasp I would go for a system like @Coda mentioned. After some research I’m doing very similar.

I fitted a battery ring doorbell about 6 months ago an am not too impressed. I either get alerts all day long when people / cars go by or if I turn it down footage of people leaving the driveway!

I have used the ring doorbell along with sonoff switches and IFTTT to turn on floodlights when the ring detects motion. That works quite well.

  14. I have a Swann system, about £300, fitted it myself. Quality ok. Doesn’t deter the low life’s of this world....I’m in a bungalow they’ve waved at the cameras, turned them round before getting up to no good...police and neighbours who have never spoken to you appear to view the footage when things have gone on....
I’m going to install a couple more hidden cameras to catch the buggers out...

  15. Yep I heard a lot of stories about Ring stuff similar to yours when I was looking for CCTV, so I didn't bother with it. Maybe the next gen will be better.

All this talk I might have to lock the garage and shed if I can find the locks

  17. Cheeky buggers. Machine gun turrets are probably the way forward.

  18. We have a Blink.. connects to the house Wifi sends you a message is anyone comes into set zones. Works ok pretty good internet type camera.
