Advice and guidance needed

  1. We have a t2, 1973 in need of some serious TLC
It’s on the road, drives & looks nice, but sadly needs a lot of welding underneath.

Sills, outriggers, jacking points, cross members plus others :(

We would like to do as much work ourselves as possible, learning as we go......

    Drivers side.

We have removed the sills, inner/outer, both outriggers and part of the front cross member. We have found that the main beam where the cross member & out rigger fix to is full of holes and therefore before I can continue, need to sort this first.

So what’s the safest and best way to repair this.

Any guidance/help will be appreciated. Will take some pics.

  2. First of all do you have a welder and know how to use it? If you have practice lots on clean scrap steel as you'll find it easier than trying to get then hang of it whilst being on your back under the van with red hot sparks landing on you...

    https://www.mig-welding.co.uk has some good guides

  5. Best cut it out back to good metal and weld it back in. Chassis is thicker metal..
Have a good look through the resto's and you will find others that have done these bits.
You may be able to buy repair panels if you have a look, probably try schofields for them...
Do it a bit at a time and you will be fine.
Should see what some on here have welded up ( properly) so that does not look to bad.
    crack on.
