Thanks, I thought that might be the case, but when covered in steering box oil, my brain probably would not have worked that out :)

With the help of a screw type ball joint separator, the arm is released and I've now disconnected the box...however how the box and arm comes through the chassis member is beyond me. Actually the first issue is the fixing back plate, the hole is toooooo small to go over the top of the pitman arm...am I missing something?

    It should wriggle over it.

  4. Wiggle that plate off first then the arm will go through the hole in the chassis

  5. ^this. Take the plate off, and there's a whacking great hole in the chassis member behind it, which the whole lot will fit through.

  6. PS Scrub all that filth off the arm, nut, etc and you'll see what's what. From memory, should be a tab washer locking the main 'box securing nut.

Take the arm and the cover off and it'll fall out. I couldnt get mine out without removing the arm.

Hopefully I can wiggle and waggle the plate off and the arm out without taking it off, tomorrow will see.

  10. My memory is a bit fuzzy but you may need to remove the nut and washer before the plate will go over the arm.

Did this a few weeks ago ... the bent locking plate and nut have to come off first, then you can maneuvre it out with the arm on.

Hehe, there are many people who wish it was that easy for the arm to come off....

Just about to go outside to start on the bracket, any tips about how the bracket glides off!

Spin it upside down by the looks of your photo and push the box to the chassis for max plate free ply.

One thing to note is that none the 4 internal spacers inside that box section drop out.... it had happened previously on 2 of mine it seems.

Lack of tools stop play....I hadn't taken into account that I needed to take the nut off the pitman arm, and I ain't got a spanner etc big enough nor strong enough to unwind the the nut on arm....looks like it's 36 or 37 ish. Before I buy (the wrong) big spanner/socket, does anybody know the right size?

Will check, I saw your thread and I'm hoping they are all in place.
