Accelerator Cable fitting... any tips?

  1. Hello All,

To get my mind off the whole engine not sparking problem I'm having, I decided it was time to fit a new accelerator cable while I'm working on the underneath.

The problem is with about 1-2 ft to go the cable will not budge, its like theres something blocking the tube :S

Has anyone got any tips on how to get around this or when they fitted theirs did they have the same problem? :)

    Thanks

Check the tube it travels down hasn't been kinked or crushed. I've had to cut out about 3" from mine an replace it it fuel hose.

  7. Yeah, you don't want to tke that large middle belly pan off. It's likely that it's only that which is holding the front of the van to the back of the van

I had to cut a piece out. There was no other option available to me.

  9. I played this game earlier this year, it would kink & stick at the very last stage, seemed to be the final flexible conduit that leads from around the clutch area to the fan housing.

After a lot of faff, I got some stainless flexible wire from a chandler yard in a couple if diameters & rodded it through from both directions as this was a bit stiffer than the accelerator cable, & eventually got mine through

From underneath you can pull the end of the flexible conduit out, this is the end that sits near the fan housing. It goes through a cross member in a hole.
I did this so I had the flexible conduit pointing down instead of to the engine, I was able to get my cable through like this, but when I'd get the flexible conduit back in position it would snag. The other end of this conduit is what sits in your fixed cable guide under your belly pan, although only a push fit at this end they will more than likely be rusted together solid.
