Aaaarrgh fuel gauge

  1. Any ideas on this?

Fuel gauge worked fine 2 days ago, but now nothing.
There is power to the dash and power to the dash warning lights. There's 2 wires going to the silver box from the warning lights. The silver box ( i presume a voltage regulator ) There's power on one of these 12v and it appears to pulse at about 4v the other side, but nothing where it connects onto the back of the gauge.

  2. Happens to me a couple of months ago and it was the push on connector for the fuel guage. You need to take the dash pod out. I will have a look for some pics but don't think I have them.

Hopefully it is this as it is a simple fix of pushing the connector back on.

  3. Cheers Davedub,

I've had the dash pod out today to check the connections and as far as I can see ok and clean. But they can't be :( In hindsight i should of taken a picture.

  4. Same as should have taken pics. Luckily mine was not difficult to fix. Even run 12v through the guage and it should jump to full and at least you will know that the actual guage is not broken.

Not to sure how much one of these would cost but if it fires up it is a start.

  5. The pulsing of your regulator is fine, and shows it's working. Are you saying that you don't see the pulsing voltage on the back of the gauge?

Check for 12v on the cable that comes from the loom to the silver box if not check fuses/wires
    if ok
The brown wire on the back of the gauge, short it to earth and the needle should shoot over. If it does its the wire to the sender or the sender.

if you have 12v and the needle does not shoot over it the gauge or the voltage unit.

quickly bypass the voltage unit if the needle moves its the voltage unit if not its properly the gauge

  7. I think I can see the pulsing, I need to double check.

And cheers Matty, I'll follow all the checks as soon as I can get the dash back out during day light.

    Thanks again all :)

  8. Weird haha

Got in the van tonight and the fuel gauge worked perfectly. Put it in reverse, and the gauge immediately died.

Must be a bad connection. ( The gauge remained lit up, just the needle dropped away )

If you have reversing lights check the earth's on the back of the lights

My van has done the mending itself thing before while waiting for me to fix it.
