I dont think shows are my thing anymore I realised at the weekend that everytime i go to a show nowadays i hardly spend anytime looking at busses or piling through boxes of parts in the trade area and i even said the phrase When you have seen one bus youve seen them all Maybe ive done too many shows or ive grown out of them? What i now realise is my moneys better spent going camping with a bunch of good freinds somwhere where theres good walks a local pub with good food and real ale and where the kids can roam free
Of late, quite a few have been saying a similar thing Para, there are still some great little shows out there but I know exactly what you are saying! Camping, good friends, great scenery..job done!
Agree you can overdo shows but we do try a new one each year (when not cancelled!) Dubs at the castle soon followed by a week in Builth Wells. Now where did I put the wellies after Camperjam?
Never a truer word spoken mate , i always do two shows a year , it was dubfreeze and vanfest , last year and this its been dubfreeze and camperjam . i'm beginning to think camping in a field and a pub with mates is far better .
I said the same thing a few years back, to the point at one point i sold all my dub stuff and very nearly brought a chevy We tend to stick to the small shows now, unknown live bands and a more relaxed feel. I feel what your saying but dont right off the scene completly, look at the smaller shows and stuff youve not done up to now Most of all do what you enjoy
same, camperjam 'cos it's big and local, dubfreeze 'cos it's local.... the rest is personal holidays with the wife or holidays with a smaller group of friends.
Well i enjoyed busfreeze immensly last year, winning 200 quid in the raffle was a bonus. dubfreeze was lust with the heater i brought from bus freeze with my winnings. and Camperjam was mad. but to go and spend time camping with friends in a field near a pub sounds great... the top 2 are good trade shows for getting stuff for your vdub..
I think fuel costs have started to have their toll, i dont mind spending, but £300 + for a weekend is nearly as bad as a northern school trip it doesnt make for friends from far away really. Lets face it we all say we would love to come but its to far for a weekend and thats what most shows / meets are .
fuel deffo a massive factor, we were talking to the hangovers and birdy who said we should come south but unfortunately (or fortunately) depending how you see it us midlands boys and girls have so much choice with just 100 miles radius and even a weekend in wales with food fuel etc is £200 so doing 250 miles adds £100 and i would get a nose bleed if i go past Birmingham.
i dunno about essex mate, to be fair i've been to that there london twice both times on the train drove to kent as well didn't like it, if i go south i get on that there m5 and go to devon but i doubt my van will ever go south due to fuel issues, i love wales myself and never tire of it - which is lucky, Barmouth and surrounding area is 100 miles from me and it has all i need, going again next week.
