    Time line photos below

A couple of weeks ago I was walking down the alley by my house and found a very small baby sparrow on the floor. As there are a lot of cats about including my 2 I took it indoors and put it in a box. At the time an auto electrician was working on my van on the drive and a bit later said i think your cat has got something. Indded he had - he had trapped another baby sparrow under a rock - I then picked that one up and put it in the box with the other one on our terrace.

We were a bit worried if they would survive as looked a little raggy - however, after a while we managed to feed one of them from a syringe ;D the smallest one still wouldnt open its beak so we thought it may die over night ...... however, the next morning they were both alive and cheeping loudly ;D

It still took until later in the day for the littlest one to open its beak for us ..... after that there was no looking back! Also by the 3rd day the parents had heard them too and were coming to feed them. We didnt know if both birds were being fed so carried on ourselves too! One day we thought they had fledged but they had managed to get out of the box and had dropped along side some stacks of tiles and storage box that i had to move to free them ::)

We now decided they needed more space to get stronger so moved them onto the roof terrace. This involved having their box and another little shelter as it gets to 50 plus on the roof and we had already had a new born incident earlier in the year where a bird had died of over heating :( I also made a little perch for them to stand on, put them on it and they just looked very bemused and then fell off whn i started to feed them!

Any way .... feeding carried on and 2 female birds and 1 male were coming to feed the little ones bolstering our theory that were from different nests. We later found the other male dead which explained the odd number. The birds were now getting stronger and hopping about .... also more indeoendant ... one tried to peck me when i was getting some poo off its wing! Eventually the day came when i went on the roof to find one had flown ......hurrah! The littlest one took another 2 days but then that flew away too, leaving us very happy that we had helped them survive and a little sad that they had gone!

here are photos of their progress up to little ones last feed ;D

  2. I did a similar thing once. Such a wonderful feeling when they fly away knowing that you saved a life.

Its ace isnt it? Did yu see yours fly off? I didnt, but wished i had - i felt maybe they would do a fly past and dip a wing in aknowledgement! ;D We had the bigger ones 8 days and the smallest 10 so were starting to wonder if they were just happy living on the roof being fed by humans and their mothers! ;D
