A four-day old newbie.....

Discussion in 'Introduce Yourselves' started by pHiL, Aug 18, 2011.

  1. Well after looking around for the past 9 months or so, I finally popped my Bay cherry and found myself my first bus.

Picked her up on Sunday, and she drove the 165 miles home without missing a beat.... now whether that continues, I'll have to wait and see!

1974, Pop-Top, RHD Walkthrough. Originally she was white and orange, but the previous owner had re-painted her white and mountain green after sorting out the rusting body work. I know there are some orange fans out there, but I must admit I prefer the mountain green. She’s called ‘Old Nelly’ after a previous owner, so currently trying to decide whether to keep it, shorten to ‘Nelly’, or re-christen her….. suggestions more than welcome!

No interior in her, apart from two front seats out of a battered Peugeot, so most of my work will be sorting that out.

I’m completely new to VW campers, so sorry, am sure I will have lots of newbie questions to annoy you all with! I have wanted one years, but my lack of mechanical know-how had stopped me….. my new take on that was to get one, and so it will force me to learn Am more than happy to get my hands dirty, so I will just have to hope I fix more things than I break!

Can’t get any pictures of her on here at the moment, as I’m at work and photobucket is blocked, but I’ll try and get some on soon.

    Hello to all!

  13. Thanks for the warm welcome.

I'll definitely get some pics up this weekend, work has been a bit mental this week, with lots of extra hours, so not had a chance to do it. Hopefully there will be some sunshine too, so I'll get some better ones taken.

Must admit I loved the 160 mile drive home, had the biggest smile on my face and was so much fun to drive. Usually I am one of those people who want to get everywhere fast, but in the bus I was happy just going along at its own speed, while learning where all the gears are, dealing with the crosswinds, and wondering what on earth I had let myself in for :)

  15. Was hoping to take some better pics today in the sun, but not had a chance. However these are some pics I took last weekend just after I picked her up......

Just need to think up some ideas of what to do with the interior, she only has a couple of battered Peugeot seats up front and thats it at the moment
