'75 Canadian Original Panel Van.

  1. Aloha, I'm new on here and this is my first Bay! (Had two Beetles, three T25's and a Squareback but always wanted a Bay). Recently bought this solid Pastell Weiss 1975 Panel van from a great guy in Colchester, he imported it from Medicine Hat in Alberta, Canada a couple years ago where he had used it to transport his ice hockey kit around. Originally a bread van for a bakery in Medicine Hat. One of the workers bought the van from the bakery and sold it on to him after storing it for many years. Original 63k miles.

Done a few bits on it over the last two weeks, got the horn working, washer bottle upgrade to motorised JK one, seats bolted in and three point front belts installed.

Just put it through it's first MOT and it failed on N/S handbrake cable.

While getting the handbrake sorted, had a full service, new shoes and pads and rear cylinders and front N/S wheel bearing. Good to go...

It passed and the paperwork is in the post to the DVLA for getting it registered and taxed. Boom.

Won't be ready for a trip to Busfest but no matter...

  2. Very very nice, welcome

Is it staying as a panel van :)

  3. Definitely staying as a panel van, no doubt about that. That's why I went for it ;) I want something to put some signwriting on for business use, it'll be a daily driver. I was originally after an prototype bay panel van but my uncle used to have a late white bay in Cape Town in the 80's and used it for a surf bus and this one took me right back to then. I am still in two minds about keeping it stock as it is or going the full monty and lowering with alloys, getting it sprayed etc. - J

I'd keep it basically as is, maybe a couple of inches lower.

I just showed Ms.T & I'm afraid my chances of getting a panel van still look very remote :(

  6. Very cool. Is Medicine Hat a place?

  7. @brothernumberone Yea Medicine Hat is a town in Alberta, Canada. Crazy eh? @Terrordales until 2 weeks ago I had a '89 high top Autosleeper T25 with propex and tons of luxuries for camping with the two kids but the other half saw this van and heard it was from Medicine hat and I told her it's history and she went all Native American themed interior on me and then really talked me into it. (I've been after a panel for years.) So the T25 sold the very same day and this is the new project. - The key is to find a van that has a history that really appeals to the other half and big it up for a few days and then act as though you don't really like it anymore and have seen something more practical ;)
