50% of indicators not working.

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Clubs, Mar 31, 2024.

  1. Indicators worked normally until I removed useless afr gauge and fitted oil temperature gauge, entailing instrument panel pulled forward and fuse box inscrewed.
    Thought it was done last evening, but noticed when I switched on alarm RH indicators never worked. On investigation;

All fuses present and none blown, all connections on fusebox look okay.

LH indicators and dash telltale work normally, working on indicator switch, hazards, and on arming alarm. Indicator relay ticks.
RH indicators and telltale don't illuminate on switch, on hazards or on arming alarm. Indicator relay not working.

Checked wiring diagram and followed wires through, can't see anything abnormal.
All connections to hazard switch present and correct. This was my first suspect.
Checking voltage at black and green wire 3 way connector there is 0v with RH indicator switch off, 12v with it on.
Black and white connector has expected 12v / 0v on and off when LH indicator switched on.
I have spent hours looking at this problem and can't solve it.
Any of you 'been there, done it' experts point me at a place to look?
I would appreciate any pointers right now. Thanks.

  4. Try the small spade connectors to the left and right of the engine hatch

  5. Somewhere near rear lights?
I was in there fitting wiring for oil temp sender before I was behind dash and fuse box.

  6. Yes, near the rear light clusters.

  7. Thanx for the advice F_Pantos. Gave me something to look for.
I found 2 earth tabs on right side as you look at engine lid. 1 wire connected, 1 earth tab on left side, 1 wire connected.
They were quite rusty, but wires were on. Cleaned up the tabs and put a bit of electrical grease on them. No difference though...same problem.

  8. Well in conclusion, both right hand bulbs were compromised at the same time!... The rear right indicator bulb was dislodged and when moved, started working, the right hand front bulb had blown...all in sync with me messing around behind the dash. What's the chances of that happening?
Maybe I should check the simple stuff next time.
Thanks for all the advice people.
