5.18am, I'm just rambling on, so only read if you have nothing better to do.

  1. its 5.18am. been up since 3.30. Must have pulled something in my back whilst under the bus all last night. Can't lay down, can't stand up or walk. sat at kitchen table feeling sorry for myself :(

    We spent all night fitting a new throttle cable, I know 20 min job , 30 mins tops! It wouldn't go through the fan housing. We had the rubber sleeve in place, the metal pipe in place but it just would'nt go. Couldn't even get anything through from the engine bay end at one point. Joycee being a 72 didn't help because she has the extra gearbox mount at the top. Good job the main man Austin was here, or i'd have given up hours before.

    The cable needed replacing because;

    After driving back home from the petrol station to get some money, as i'd filled up and left the cash at home.( 7.50 short and they took my phone and driving licence) The bus cut out on the drive, I found the throttle cable was a bit loose. I then proceeded to over tighten the bolt holding the cable to the carb and snapped the head off the bolt and snapped the cable.
    this left me with a bolt with no head , holding in a partially snapped cable. I had to drill out the bolt, whilst still on the van (as it had hold of the broken cable). whilst doing this I managed to snap a wire on the coil, and split a fuel line and cut my thumb.

    All this , from over tightening a bolt. Should I leave the DIY mechanics alone now?

    A very tired, poorly, feeling sorry for himself, ding-bat , bus owner. :arrggh:

    and all this because the second EMPI carb fitted also leaked.

  2. Don't give up the DIY mechanics - it happens to everyone. I've learnt that it's the jobs that I reckon will only take 30 minutes that are the ones that will take the longest. Have some karma for sticking at it though.

  3. Don't give up, mistakes are the only true way to learn. If it had been fine or easy you wouldn't have known about the rest of the stuff. I always find first time I'm doing a job something happens that makes me go 'ah, so doing that affects that and stops this' etc

    For a bad back nice hot water bottle to ease the muscles the lay on a cold floor, heat then cold all the way.

  4. Mate we all make mistakes when diy goes well its really satisfying u think u messed up i wrongly re installed an oil pump and killed a

  5. Chin up dude its all experiance and some learning curves are steeper than others

  6. Pooh happens, live n learn and all that, in a weeks time you'll look back and it wont seems so bad. Hope your back gets better quick, I've had a bad back for over a year but my job is not kind to backs :(
