    I
I think your son is getting dispondant because no one job is being solved, as everyone has said concentrate on one job, tick it off and then tackle the next, you get a good feeling when you get something to work , something about releasing dolphins, personally I think all dolphins should roam in pastures green,

One job at a time catchy monkey

Oh yes. Very pleased to be out of that, though the funny thing was, in the end she was too lazy to deal with any of it and just abandoned ship. Makes you wonder if hoarding is really just laziness or inability to make a decision. Pretty sure she didn't really want any of it. I advise him to start doing tip runs and, well, if it ends in splitting up, probably the best thing anyway.

  3. Buying a van without checking it out first is a risk. Deciding to live with a lady without checking her out first is a risk.

The van will be sorted and enjoyed. The decision to split up with the lady has been taken and will now take its course sooner rather than later.

My son can store his stuff at my house and then leave. The lady can sink in her ever growing mess. The house would be sold in due course whether voluntarily or not it will happen.

  4. The new van has 2 show stoppers preventing driving it.

    Brakes

    Auto box

The brake servo/booster was not working and we found two split hose joining sleeves were split and with temporary use of ptfe tape we managed to get strong vacuum at the servo end of the hard vacuum pipe, so that's encouraging. New rubber joining sleeves are ordered.

Of more concern is the auto box fluid which is bad. The level is up on the dipstick and the colour is dark brown and smells strongly of hypoid gear oil so I suspect mixing of the auto box and diff oils has occurred.

Didn't have time today to drop the box pan and fluid and check the diff gear oil, so will be next weekend for that. I have new atf and gl4 but I am thinking the seals have leaked inside.

Maybe that is the reason the previous owner sold it.

My son is getting despondent about this project, but what he has achieved so far is amazing. The van itself has excellent bodywork and paint and updated original interior, its a keeper and once the mechanicals are sorted, it would be an excellent van over the long term.

The good news is my son is driving the Golf mk2 with my grandson driving his own Golf mk2 , so its not all bad.

It was suggested back in March that the pan was dropped, the filter changed and new oil introduced...you can lead a horse to water lol...is your son a member here?
It may save you some grief

  6. From my recent posts I think you understand the issues here and its not just about the vans as @Zed would understand. Its not the vans causing the unhappiness, its the hoarding woman spoiling his enjoyment of life.

    Well, that's another thread altogether.
Hope he is able to find the mechanism to engineer some happiness.
Folk forget it's not just them that suffer with poor life decisions x
