mine was a 1600xl as well, i fitted a carb off a 2 litre although i had no idea if it made it faster in my mind it did.

 

they fetch stupid money now though, i paid £205 for mine in 1986 it was 10 years old at the time and very rusty.

I was well into fords ....Could do a Escort clutch in less than a hour...My Cortina Crusader was one of the best cars I have ever had....

I had a mk1 fiesta xr2 lookalike with a 950 engine in it...

I came to france in a mk2 fiesta 1100 with topbox ,I calculated we could get the ferry in 8 hours ,we missed it, against the wind with 2 adults and 3 kids I was lucky to get 65 ,the alternator gave up the ghost as well ,had to drive with dipped beam and buy a couple of batteries [had no euro breakdown]...
