  1. Hi all, bought a type 4 Bosch alternator a week or so ago, just noticed its marked up al75x, any ideas if this is ok to fit to a late bay or have I messed up??

  2. doesnt mean anything to me. Where is it from? if you have a link to what you bought then might be able to help. I believe there is a 75 amp version available (standard is 55 from memory)

  3. i bought it off another forum member as he no longer needed it, cant complain, i got a good deal!! he has no details but if the part no is to be beleived its a 75 amp. I have googled the no and it tallies 100% with VW and bosch details.

I just need to source a new reg, and pulley and it should be ok, i will do a little more investigation before i jump in, mine may have even come with one from the factory as it have a second battery setup and associated extra electrics, need to check the m plate.

  4. Jammy get. Just changed mine for a replacement 55 amp one. Wouldnt have minded the additional output!

  5. Been doing some searching and it would appear to be more hassle than its worth, it's not just the pulley and reg, I also need the loom connector, cooling tube and a few other parts which are discontinued parts!!

So may be putting it back up for sale!!

  6. Its not a like for like replacement then? Any idea where it came from? cooling conduit should be same as you would use the rear cowl of your old one, pulley will be same (how could it not be). existing loom should be fine.

Im assuming that you have an existing running engine with working alternator (or at least one thats all there!)

  7. just a thought - it is a type 4 one isnt it?

  8. Ratwell pages have quite an in depth write up on the differences, the pulley has a cooling fan built in, the vent is round not oval, plug is waterproof on the 75 and the 55 loom plug doesn't fit on, so long story short, I'm selling the 75 cheap also!! And off to get a 55

    Any takers??

At least it should be easy to sell, as the 75 amp alternator is hard to find according to ratwells

  9. Well I never! Hadnt seen the ratwell stuff. Good find. You are right - does look like a ball ache.

I would speak to Heritage and ascertain whether the one described as 55 amp and also 70 amp is indeed 70 amp and whether its 55 spec or 70 spec as regards the pulley etc are concerned.

  10. just left a message with machine 7 to check with them, i will get a 55 just in case and swap whichever fits, i cant imagine it will be a 75, but westy's may have been fitted with themas there was extra kit in there from standard.

    keep ya posted.

check out electric window page on ratwell, i have all theparts, just havent gotround to it yet, there is some good info all in one place, may be worth a sticky!! Cancel that, its in the second sticky already!!

  11. meant I hadnt seen the ratwell stuff on alternators its a fab site to be sure! especially for type 4 stuff.

  12. i only vaguely remembered reading it somewhere, glad i had a search before i pulled the bus apart at the weekend. i now have a 55 on its way, so will either return one or have it up for grabs at the weekend.

Im sure someone will be after a bosch recon for a T4 or 914!!
