I'm getting old, so is my other half, and we've ended up with an Autosleeper Clubman (nice bus...just not cool!) My lovely Westy is quietly sitting in storage, wanting to go out to play ...as much as I would like to leave it there gaining in value I just can't do it. It's time for a new owner, more adventures and fun! I bought her 8 years ago as an upgrade from my T25 Westy, and have been all over in her...even done the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland. My travelling buddy writes the odd article for VW mags , consequently she's made the odd appearance, but never the centrefold. I have a folder with the original receipt from when she was sold by Mendocino VW of Ukiah, California on Feb 23rd 1979. Same family kept her and she went from father to son, and his son learned to drive in her (I tracked him down from the US paperwork and now he's a buddy on facebook) I bought her from a Norwich based importer called Paul Nunn, if you go to the shows he's a regular face. I'm the only UK owner. I've tried to keep her as original as I could, and for her age she's doing well! Original carpets, pop top fabric, hob, sink, furniture, front table, centre box, fridge, internal lights, etc.... I've sourced other bits to suit.. period correct radio, map light, overriders, folding centre table. Paintwork is 70% original with the odd dent and scrape as you would expect. I had the front professionally painted around 7 years ago and they did a great job of it. Rock solid underneath, and the dealer applied underseal is still working as it should. There's a small patch under the drivers wheel arch that I picked off, and its pristine paintwork underneath. That's now got clear underseal on it. The BAY numberplate is her registration, not a show plate (I stalked a guy for two years to get it....was on a old Peugeot!) and is included in the sale if the asking price (or very close to) is achieved. She's obviously tax and MOT exempt, so not an expensive classic to run. Currently in dry storage near Grantham if you wanted to take a look, but it would have to arranged as it's a secure compound and I live about an hour away. £21, 750 or very near offer gets you an appreciating classic that you can go out to play in tomorrow! I'm open to sensible offers, but then the private plate comes off , and that would be a shame as suits the bus so well. Any questions just give me a ring on 07793 126323. my name's Andy Woods.
Well it was sort of inevitable Andy. Good luck with the sale bud that is an awesome bus. Hope to see you at TE again soon. Neil
If anyone is looking for a bay then this one has to up there as one of the best. priced too low imho - bargain for someone - glwts
Also, maybe check out how much that plate is worth, it may be a lot more than you think.. https://www.regtransfers.co.uk/search/searchresults?criteria=Bay
I agree. If you're into such things it's pretty much the ultimate plate for a 79.. If it's a 5 grander that's a nice wedge to put towards the awning room and a few nights away in the Clubman without devaluing the van itself which is a corker. Then again it makes the bus even more stand out and it's not always just about the money..
