Here is our 1979 Westfalia which we imported to New Zealand in June 2011. We had been looking locally for a Kombi for a while but after 3 disappointing trips around the country decided to look farther afield. After missing out on a sage green Westy again from LA Westy we came upon this one At Long Beach CA prior to heading to Shipping Company Here at Kiwi Shipping not far from Long Beach port California....not knowing that would be soon destined for the Shaky Isles and a bumpy beginning. Arrived in NZ and on the day it went through its compliance checks a 6.3 mag earthquake struck causing mayhem around the city. Once the worries of finding my family members and that they were all safe did I begin to wonder if the Bus came through unscathed. Rang my Vw mechanic who was sorting out the import compliance process for me and gave me the good news that she was Ok. At that time I was uninsured! last weekend at Hanmer Springs (1 and 1/2 hours north of Christchurch) an event called "Das Alpen Tour" our bus at the end amongst some earlier Bays Recently fitted new Seat Covers and rubber pedestal mats Before
awesome mate! I'm kiwi, living in london and bought a 77 westy over here (Cali import called Herb) I've been thinking about shipping Herb back to NZ when I finally leave here as I think NZ would be a brilliant place for kombi life especially with a young family What was the process like for doing the import? Expensive? tax? and how expensive are they to buy back there? for something like what you've got there? enjoy it back there!!
Been a while since i updated and have been inspired by the work Chrisradioman is doing. So will start with a few things that I did to my bus last year. Installed some new rubber seat mats, had to use some of the old ones as they don't make them for high Westfalia passenger chair.
