  1. Volkswagen 1976 (Built 12/1975) Bay window Westfalia Berlin tin‐top Left‐Hand drive (US import) £19000

Hi and welcome to my advert for my campervan. I appreciate this is a long advert, this is to make sure nothing is missed and to be thorough with my description. Please take the time to read the Advert and I am happy to answer any questions you may have. I have over 50 pictures of the van which I can send by email or whatsapp to anyone interested.

For sale I have my 1976 (Built 12/1975) bay window Westfalia berlin tin‐top, this is a US model and has the usual Westfalia berlin interior minus the stove as standard. I purchased this camper in 2019 and it was meant to be a keeper for many years, but life has thrown a considerable curveball at me and unfortunately my camper must go for several reasons. I am telling you this as any work I have done was all with the idea of me keeping this van for a long time and to make sure it was 100% right.

It was imported from the US‐ Oregon into the UK and registered in April 2015

With the camper being and import it is Left‐Hand Drive, but please do not let this put you off. Once you have driven left hand drive for a few miles you totally forget about it and will easily jump from right‐hand drive to left‐hand drive! (you will still go to the wrong side door a few times though!!!!!)

The camper itself very original and has a lot of its original fixtures and fitting in place, such as original curtains all round, cab bunk, rear fly screen for tailgate and the original Westfalia jalousie windows all in working order.

The camper has been lowered, the rear is done by using Transporterhaus adjustable drop spring plates with new bushes and the front is currently done on the original beam with adjusters. Included in the sale if the asking price is met, is a brand new 3” narrowed Transporterhaus front beam, with new 2” dropped spindles and all new ball joints which I haven’t got around to fitting, this was purchased to improve the ride quality and allow for better height adjustment at the front of the van. I still have the original rear spring plates so the van can very easily be returned to standard height if that is desired.

The camper is fitted with Porsche Fuchs 15” style wheels which I think really suite the van and the look

With my vision of keeping this van for a long time, I Have fully rebuilt the engine (engine builder/ tester by profession) this really was a no expense spared engine build as you will see in the build spec. I have built it to be an enhanced performance 2056cc type 4 engine which made 110Hp and 131Ftlb when the engine was setup on the rolling road dyno by Peter Burgess. It was built with reliability and a good pulling engine when loaded up with camping gear in mind. At the bottom of the advert you can find the full engine build spec and what work was done and all the parts which were fitted. Since the rebuild the engine and gearbox have only covered 1000miles.

Also, at the same time as the engine was removed, the original 6rib gearbox was taken to be rebuilt by John Walklett, this includes a longer 4 th gear to lower the revs when on the motorway and give slightly more top speed if desired. While the engine and gearbox was out all the shifting rod bushes from front to rear of the camper were replaced and a new CSP shifter coupling fitting at the gearbox end, this has made the gear shift as it should be (anybody who says they are all sloppy and like stirring porridge is talking nonsense)

The engine bay has been fitted with a built‐in fire suppression system from IGNIS/ VW Jim, this is a foam (AFFF Aqueous Film Forming Foam) system and is self‐deploying if ever the worst was to happen to save your pride and joy. Fire Suppression System (vwjim.co.uk)

The bodywork on the van in my opinion is great, the door shut gaps are perfect and all the panels nice and straight and you can see exactly what is going on with it. No filler hiding previous bad repairs and sins! The van does have what people refer to as patina which I personally like, this has been lacquered/ clear coated to preserve this look, and I can appreciate is not everybody’s taste.

The underside/ chassis of the van in my opinion is seriously impressive for a camper which is 45 years old! The original paint is still in place in most areas. I have tried with the photos the show the condition the best I can. The only welding which I have done was to replace both battery trays (common issue) these were replaced with top quality panels from Auto craft and the body paint has been blended in for a seamless repair.

The Westfalia camper conversion is in great shape with a bit of wear and tear as you would expect for 45years old. Comfortably sleeps two people and a child on the cab hammock if needed. The electrics in the van are still 110volt as used in the US and will require changing to allow the safe use of 240Volt when camping.
