1973 Devon Caravette (Daisy)

  1. I thought I'd done this already, but I was mistaken... so here is my 1973 Devon Caravette! A friend of mine who is a photographer took these photos at the weekend. Prizes if you can guess the location!

I am the third owner having bought her in April. I've tried to keep her as original as possible, although admittedly the colour is Harvest Moon Beige and not the original Brilliant Orange. The Devon interior isn't the most durable but it's very easy on the eye.

I've put seatbelts in the back and I am installing a leisure battery and discreet mains hookup as well. Thanks to all those on here who have helped so far! :)

  2. Really nice bus same layout as ours. Does it have the cooler under the cooker? Interesting to see the rounded edge of the table ,this is my biggest bugbare with ours as its too hard to get in and out with a squared table. I'm guessing Portsmouth/Southampton btw

  3. Thanks, yes there was a coolbox under the cooker but it cracked under the PO's jurisdiction so was removed. I use it for the gas bottle. What year is yours? If it's around '73 then it should have a rounded table. I had to search high and low for mine as again the PO had removed it.

    And close... ;)

  4. Well, yes... ;) possible clue in the 8th photo

  5. It's an L reg 72/73. Rounded edges but square table. I always struggle to get past. Was beginning to think I'd had one too many Cornish pasties washed down by a rattler down here in cornwall

  6. Looking at the '72 Moonraker manual online it looks like a square table. How annoying! Mine's still a squeeze though for many.

  7. Nice looking van and very nice pics :)

  11. Hi Lew
Very interested to see your images of Daisy - looks a very nice bus. We have just bought 'Tigger' a 1974 VW T", and trying to find out more about her. Daisy is as close to ours as we've seen. Cupboards, tables and seating/bed all the same, albeit our woodwork has been painted over at sometime. Your table is more rounded than ours. Our seating fabric is similar, but new. Is yours original?
Interestingly we have a louvre window on off-side behind driver's door (RHD). Does anyone know - were these an option, or could have been fitted by PO.Would it be Westfalia or Devon? Ours is 3 long louvres, but others I have seen have 2 banks of 3 louvres.

  12. If it's got this interior it's definitely a Devon Caravette. 73 year ish. I've not seen one with the same seating fabric before but mine is all original. Get some photos up!

Louvre window isn't shown in the owners manual so I suspect it's a later addition. Manual here: http://www.devonmoonraker.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/bay/1973_manual.pdf

The '74 Eurovette is similar but I think the cooker is in a different place http://www.devonmoonraker.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/bay/1974_Eurovette_Caravette_manual.pdf

Other option it that it's A.N.Other bus and they've taken the interior from a Devon and popped it in.

  14. Having a few computer problems at the mo.. Old PC given up the ghost and new one got lots of programmes missing - not even a card reader!. As soon as possd. we'll get images up. We've seen several later Devons with swing out kitchens, but ours is next to sliding door and adjacent sink. Only cupboard under, no rack or insdulation for cool box.
Louvre window could well be a later addition. Any idea what colour the woodwork should be? Georgian Oak, Cherry. Beech? Ours has been painted over.

  15. Mine's oak 'plated'. I've varnished it so it looks a little nicer than before (40 years of hard use!).

  17. Very nice van and pics :) I don't know the location but guessing it is either Isle of Wight or near Southampton somewhere? Looks stunning though, somewhere I'd love to take my bus...
