  1. With much regret I have for sale our beloved

1973 VW Type 2 Bay Window Camper

The camper, named 'Bertie' has had no expense spared and I mean that, over £10,000 spent on the restoration and over £2000 in parts, Servicing etc to make sure it has always been in top shape.

We brought the camper in 2010 and it had a full bare metal refurb and was painted a base cream colour, it had been welded, new panels and was meticulously put back together. It was in need of more restorations and so our journey began.

We had the whole of the underneath refurbished and sealed, the engine came out and the engine bay was painted and the engine under went a full service.

After the engine bay paint job and underneath was finished, the engine was put back in and it went for a full interior restoration with Kens Customs in Derbyshire, I did the wood work and rebuilt the interior to make the original look of the camper, giving it a modern twist in its painted form. I added oak surface areas, table and trimming, as well as a wooden steering wheel, Scat shifter, Bambus parcel shelf, buddy/storage seat in the front, DAB/CD radio (hidden in glove box) and it still has its original Radio in place where it should be, new speakers in the front and rear allow a lovely sound but still keeping the interior stylish and no big black speakers to be found!!! Stainless window winders, stainless bolts, screws and accessories all complement each other and the curtains are pure wool with real leather straps and accents throughout the camper.

The seats and upholstery were all designed by me but produced by Keith at Kens Customs and are in real leather hide in a grey/green/brown (hard to be accurate) with cream piping. There is a bra that matches the interior and is useful for those longer journeys to save that paint work. The pop was replaced with marine grade material and matched the interiors colour way, there is also a wind skirt (for under the sliding door) and a canopy in the matching material.

The pop top as well as the material replacement had a full refurb and all pistons and arms were sand blasted and powder coated, there is one bunk bed as i haven't been able to find another original one as yet and the bed has new material.

The camper was fitted with 12V 240V hook up electrics boasting plug sockets in the main area and rear as well as 12V points in the rear and cab (for that all important sat nav or phone charging). There is also a leisure battery and bran new normal car battery.

There is no fitted cooker, within the oak side unit there is space for a single burner stainless stove which is included in the sale, i chose to not have a new style burner as i don't like cooking in the camper and prefer to use it just to boil a kettle and then use the cooker in an awning due t the condensation risk which leads to rusting from the inside out, for the same reasons I did not put a sink or fitted fridge, I use an Outwell cool/hot box which will be included in the sale, personal choice i know but I wanted to limit any condensation or water leakage. You can tell that the camper means everything to me so it made sense to me and you will understand when you see it.

The whole of the interior is STUNNING and I know it sounds like i have to say this but i honestly mean it, the interior is stunning and certainly a one off. There has been every attention to detail and you really need to see it to understand my passion for it.

Exterior: It has been fully painted outside, completed in MARCH 2014 and has only been outside for 2 weeks since then when we've been camping. The colour is Pastel Cream and Pastel Green, both are original VW colours and we spent hours matching the colours to the interior and I feel it shows. The whole of the exterior was re-sprayed and it took 4 months to complete.

New BRM wheels were added in 2011 and these finish off the camper nicely.

The camper has had regular servicing and Mot's, whenever something needed doing to the camper we have had it done, including new clutch, new steering column and pin, brakes, suspension (its lowered), heater cables and channel, passenger side running arm/ ball joint, and plenty more.

The camper was serviced in March 2015 and was completely fine, with no issues. The MOT is due in JULY 2015, this will be completed prior to the new owner collecting.

The camper has been valued by 3 individuals who all have a vast history with VW's and also by my insurance.

I am asking the price as this is a 'ONE OFF" camper and you won't find a better one anywhere, no rust, nothing to do on him and he drives amazingly.

He has just been fitted with a NEW RECON engine and has done 150 miles on this since fitting. I have to say it drives even better and is so smooth on the gears and steering, he is a pleasure to drive.

Anyway, there is no other camper like Bertie and i truly mean it. The only reason we are selling is that we have a Baby on the way and we don't want him to not be used as we have only used him once since his restoration completion, he's been driven regularly and garaged and were just not using him as much as he should be.

He was featured in Camper and Bus in August/September 2014 and we have had a massive amount of feedback and he was invited to numerous VW Shows to show of his 'uniqueness'.

I only want serious people viewing him and those with the money ready, I'm in no rush to sell him as he's like my Brother and i probably will cry when you come to view him! So serious people only and no silly offers because i won't entertain them, I know his worth and he is priceless to me.

    £26,000

    Looks nice.
Needs some proper photos though. For £26k it needs to be an absolute minter so I'd want to show the usual problem areas if it was mine.

  5. Kushti bok with the sale
