this samba went for auction a good while ago. It also had a very thorough and extensive, no expenses spared restoration...not that it justifies the auction tag though!

Totally useless motors. Uninsurable anywhere where there's people. You'd be scared to let the kids anywhere near it. Too paranoid to park it at Tescos, or drive it on grass or narrow hedgelined lanes.. If you can't use em theyre useless!

It certainly is a beautiful bus, of that there is no doubt and I would happily give a body part for it - but all I can think is that there must have been a serious case of auction fever in the house that day!!!

Totally useless motors. Uninsurable anywhere where there's people. You'd be scared to let the kids anywhere near it. Too paranoid to park it at Tescos, or drive it on grass or narrow hedgelined lanes.. If you can't use em theyre useless!

If iI had the money I would buy it. There are people with money to burn in that part of the world who grew up with Hippy ideals, they dropped out of college and set up businesses which made them extraordinarily rich. I have been to conferences where Bill Gates has spoken and Larry Ellison has spoken, those guys know their stuff, they aren't just faceless businessmen. They are very clever people who got lucky and exploited it and worked hard enough for luck to work for them. The old quote is the harder I work I the luckier I get. These are the guys buying these buses, they have enormois estates to run them on. And good on them - there is a great story where Bill Gates and Larry Ellison were having homes built at the same time - both were around the $25 million mark so Bill Gates waited until Larry's house was finished then spent an extra million on having his driveway heated to make his house more expensive.

Ostentaious frippery you might think but these guys employ huge numbers of people, they and their businesses contribute huge sums in tax all around the world and they provide an enviornment which supprorts innovation and out of the box thinking. There is no chinese or indian equivalent of Micosoft or Oracle or Google or Salesforce.com etc

I dont doubt that there are plenty of people out there in the world with the money to buy a bus like this.
High end super cars and luxury cars are bought everyday forallott more than this but that is not the point i think the point is that there are plenty of busses as good maybe even better for a lot less. Proving how rich you are buy spending just that little bit more than the last bloke is arrogant and egotistic.
