12v Lighting

  1. Hi there, as part of my interior i want to fit some 12v adjustable tilt downlighters, and have them wired up to the leisure battery (thats not fitted yet, lol)

Anyway, i was wondering if there is any reason why i cant buy some 12v lights from screwfix, designed for the home, not the camper? Are these likely to be AC, not DC, and if so, im guessing i cant use them unless i can convert the current to DC? Is it worth the hassle, or should i just buy camper specific lighting??

    Any ideas?

  2. If you get any low volt light ( they will come with a transformer 240v to 12v ) just scrap the transformer, and bingo, 12v lighting. If you go for LED then you won't get any heat from them them.

I have fitted lights this way to leisure batteries in boats before

  3. really, thats ace, so ac/dc doesnt matter then :) and i dont mean Back in black, lol....

  4. [tt][/tt]Hells Bells ( in an AC/DC style)

The transformers convert to DC anyway

If you buy the fitting, you can always add 12v LED bulbs

i've bought 3 circular led downlighters from maplins today 12v with a 240 transformer, i'm cutting the plug off and doing the same, £14.99 just the job.

  6. awesome :) i'll be on the "highway to hell" in no time then :) thanks

  7. I ditched all of my interior bulbs in favour of running LED strips and multi LED bulbs for the courtesy light. They draw almost nothing power wise and throw off stacks of light - too much in fact so they need to be slightly concealed. A couple of £'s per strip from ebay, via Hong Kong...
    :)

Or get a couple of down lighters like you mention and some LED lamps

  9. sounds good, have u got any pics of them fitted, and working?? for ideas??

  10. I ordered some led lights with switches on them, and as said above i ditched the lamps and replaced them with LED lamps less power so light for longer

  11. LED Lights rock!

I bought 4 of these last year:
    G4 Bulb Holder Cabinet Light
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G4-Bulb-Holder-Cabinet-Light-Fitting-/130620179112?pt=UK_Light_Fittings&hash=item1e6991c2a8
    around £6.50 each.

    and 4 of these:
G4 24 SMD LED Warm White Spot Light
around 4 quid if I recall.

I ran the appropriate wiring in my poptop and had them controlled by 4 switches and 1 main switch.

The lights are plenty bright enough and I like having the ability to have all the lights on or just at the front etc

  12. i like that, looks good :)

  13. I just bought the basic down lighter fitting and got some led bulbs from eBay to cut the power usage down
    Something like this

  14. Just to add if fitting a 12v DC light from screwfix the transformer should have a fuse. S just remember to buy a in-line fuse holder for each light.

Just to be on the safer side.

  15. i bought candles....matches or clipper lighter?dilema,s
