12.30 on the 16th December 2010 we took delivery of the bus after its long trip from Oz and a 12 month resto, it was during a blizzard.
It's almost a year to the day when we drove 130 miles through partly closed motorways in our trusty VW Touareg, desperate to get to HEATHROW. For miles, all 3 lanes were impassible with snow. At times we hit 70mph on it and never dropped below 55 - and I've never been so amazed by a car. Where Land Rovers, Dicoveries and Range Rovers struggled, the Touareg coped so much better. On bearly legal tyres too. Maybe they were just driving very cautiously at 5mph, I don't know. But we flew. And she was rock solid. And we made it to Heathrow on time. Alas, the planes had all been cancelled. Heathrow was in chaos. Absolute ZERO organisation from BAA. No-one had a clue what was going on. No official in sight. Quite pathetic really. Hundreds of passengers were arguing, crying etc. Then we had to sleep on the floor there for 2 nights. No so bad, but with a 2 year old child it was tough. Then they lied to us and said we could get a plane from Manchester. So off we rushed. But there was no plane, so we spent a night there too. When they eventually put us on the plane, they conveniently forgot to tell us we'd have to wait 36 hours in an airport in the Middle East before catching a plane to our destination, Thailand. To be honest, I was ready to give up in Manchester and go home. But my wife was determined to get to the beach. And we did. 5 days late, but there you go. And it turned out to be such a fab holiday (which we extended to cover the days we lost).
12 months ago today I was on a plane going to Treviso but got diverted to Marco polo in Italy, due to the snow.
