I had read several of the James Bond books including Dr No before the first film in 1962 - I have to say that apart from the Scottish accent - Sean Connery was pretty much like I imagined 007 to be like
I read that the new 007 is a women... she isn't bond! Bond is also in the film for a post retirement recall to duty. I bet Blofeld wasn't expecting that! Its a twist i suppose. Ive read a couple of the novels way back. They werent awfully funny. I wasnt a fan of the Roger Moor silliness although i did enjoy the films. Craig was believable in the role as a contemporary twist on connerys bond in my opinion. Not quite the grey man but bond is a show-off!
A woman Bond is not nearly pc enough. (S)he should be a transgender, single parent, black lesbian with disabilities and on benefits.
There’s definitely a need for more kickass female roles on TV and film. We’re starting to get more, Gentleman Jack, Killing Eve etc. Not quite sure why there’s a need for a female Bond. A new , thought up from scratch, female assassin/spy/but still a goodie role is what’s needed.
Really hope they dont go down the path of changing Bond too much, certainly no need to change his gender, background etc. To be honest the Craig era films have been my least favourite (but that probably just me). As far as female spies etc I thought this was pretty good - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_Blonde
No doubt we will be seeing Lucy Liu announced as lead in a new "shaft" movie and maybe Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne Johnson and Will Smith as the new charlies angel line-up with Emily Blunt as Bosley?
Sigourney Weaver in the original Alien series.... 1979, and so kick arse her gender was never mentioned. I think it was her, as an actress that made the role. What we need is more credible kick arse actresses, as very few of this generation are credible. Of course, that comes from opportunity for said actresses.
