I am rubbish at swimming and refuse to go out of my depth - just in case! I also don’t like getting my hair wet as it takes ages to dry. I did start going to Aquafit classes at Rotherham pool but not been for a bit. I have swim in the nip in my younger times when I’ve been on nudey beaches in foreign places, once in a camp site pool in Holland whilst playing hockey tournament. A few of us jumped over the fence after a night drinking but got caught by the owner and had to leg it with clothes in hand ( not in Rotherham!! )
I am a swimmer and have been around pools and open water all my life. I was part of a team that won the national lifeguard champions in 1989 in Hyde park. Wifey has done some impressive open water swims including Windermere, Torbay and port Patrick to orlock point. I now play underwater hockey in the top division nationally(Yes Google it) no mean feat at 48 As a teacher I have taught thousands to swim over the years and I still enjoy seeing the joy playing in water can bring kids. Swimming has given me so much, a wife, friends, a job, good times, health and has kept a number of families from grief due to the numbers I have rescued whilst working as a lifeguard. I can’t imagine life without being wet at least three times a week but don’t want to do the early mornings and long gala weekends the parents of competitive swimmers will know so well. If you do swim keep it up if you don’t give it a go
My right eye still twitches uncontrollably sometimes but the medication they gave me has calmed it down a little
