^ my very talented 11 yr old did a lovely little video of us arriving at our campsite in Dorset during the summer.
Damper bolts. Not that exciting but i noticed whilst fitting my bilsteins that i was missing any sort of washer on the rear dampers - like, there were none at all, top or bottom. Bentley shows two lock washers on the upper mount, and a flat washer and spring washer on the bottom bolt. If you look at the pics posted earlier in the thread there wasn't room to add these with the existing (i'm guessing oem) bolt - the aftermarket anti roll bar takes up some room and the rubber bushing on the bilsteins is a bit fatter than the boge dampers i had on previously so i did some research and got some longer bolts. These are 100mm 10.9 (high tensile) M12 bolts, 1.75 pitch J20802 from JK, fitted up with some new high tensile nuts. Enough space to have the correct washers in place and a few mm to spare. lower damper bolts renewed by Rob E, on Flickr
Hooked up the Bluetooth AFR gauge. Even though the sensor seemed like it might be too close to the tailpipe to be effective it’s works fine. short vid to show it working on my iPhone. Quick test drive shows is rich as I suspected new jets will be ordered shortly. also got some new wheels I’m getting ready (not a straightforward fitment) should be done in a few weeks.. test fitted a rear yesterday and happy these are going to be great and look super cool.
That looks like a good set up Me Not having had a 2ltr before I now know what they are supposed to sound like and I have no idea how to upload videos And those rims will be an improvement on the old ones me think s I might buy some more flat 4 alloys when money/wife permits .
Adding videos is easy when you know how - just add them to YouTube then copy the url. Paste the url in a post on here and it knows to automatically show as a video.
Heritage wheels are for sale. FOR SALE - OEM vw Heritage 17" wheels, bay fitment 5x112 incl hub caps, new tyres, spacers, lug nuts | The Late Bay The torq thrusts now have tyres on - i've gone for all seasons tyres this time. The bus is used all year around, obviously less in the winter but these tyres should be a good compromise - the chunky tread pattern is directional and scores really well with best in class "A" rating for wet grip. Should be good in muddy camping fields too. Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO - Tyre Reviews and Tests Rears i've gone for 205/60 like i had previously on the Zender 16"s. Fronts are 185/55 which are within a few mm of matching the previous 195/45 17s i had on the heritage wheels. Both the heritage and torq thrusts are 7" wide (Heritage are ET43 and TT's are ET35 so front track is wider but only 8mm per side). 185/55 Bridgestone all seasons on my torq thrust 16"s by Rob E, on Flickr I mounted them on the bus last night and took just a quick trundle up the lane and back - all seems ok. I'll take some pics at some point. Bicester Heritage Scramble this coming weekend so the bus will get a run
Great day out yesterday at Bicester Sunday Scramble. First run with the new torq thrust wheels on. Drives lovely with these - bit more sidewall plus squidgy all-seasons rubber makes for a nicer ride. Was there many people there? Just as I started to make this the 1st outing of the year in the van, C19 came along... You couldn’t beat making your own bacon rolls and those in long queues looking on in envy
Don’t think it was as busy I don’t think it was as busy as previous events, but still a great event and fully sold out as it always seems to be now. yes we also made use of the bus for making teas and coffees for friends
Shot, but I think it’s a bit harsher than I was hoping so in hindsight maybe something a little less aggressive would have been better. Still pleased with the “bare” look though and I think they will improve with age. I needed to do something though as they were not originally the same colour
The 17" Heritage wheels left me this morning - off via paisley freight to new owner @grandmst Good to get some garage space back - over xmas i'd had 3 sets of wheels for the bus, plus another 3 sets for my daily so 6 sets of wheels across the two vehicles - apparently that's too many wheels (according to my wife?) Now down to a more managable 2 sets per vehicle ie a winter and summer set for the daily, bus; torq thrusts and oe 14" steels just for temp/ rolling it around if the main set is off for any reason.
