Proper one. At the start of the covid, the government introduced the furlong scheme for the employed. Stay at home, with 80% of your wages. Fine for them. Bit later on, they did an average means type thing, for us self employed. They averaged your wages for 2 months, then gave an estimated wage of that time period. For example. Last April, I earned just over £1000.00, this April, I earned just over £100.00, because of the covid. The government kindly gave me £2640.00, as an average... Here’s the thing. They offered a second freeby, which ends in October, but, because of my job and circumstance ( self employed gardener, loads of work this time of year), my average is now around the same as last year. If last Aug to Oct was checked by the HMRC, they would see that it’s around the same. In my mind, I don’t need help, and if I did take the freeby, I feel that it would be wrong,as it’s more money that I’m effectively ‘stealing’, as I don’t need it, but other people are saying “take it, take it, it’s free money!”. But to me, it seems wrong. Your thoughts on it, please.
you worked all your life and paid tax's. The way i see it is if is everything is above board and the money is legally yours to have do it, others have and will take the ******* even more but will get caught out. But also totally understand the it feels wrong aspect, sometimes being selfish is a good thing, if it will benefit you and your family in anyway.
Take it if it's due, you've seen how many £billions estimated to be fraud claims. If you're entitled you're entitled, you can be sure you and yours will be paying for it later whether you claim or not.
Thanks. But it dosnt seem right to me. The first handout was a blessing, as we Did have to quarenteen, etc. But morally, I don’t want to ‘help’ get this country in a deeper hole. Does that sound right?
It's worth considering that there may be a reckoning later and if you've had more than your share, even legitimately, they might want it back. Perhaps claim it and leave it in the bank for a while if you don't need it.
If you genuinely need the help , take it . If you don’t need it don’t .. this country is full of people thinking they are entitled..
But it might end up like the higher tax bracket tax reclaim for child allowance where you had to do self assessment so the government could claw back child allowance I was not actually meant to have.
Was that recently? We used to get it and other PAYE tax credits automatically because of the way we accounted despite a close to 6 figures income. At the time that was just how it worked, we didn't actually claim anything. Typical "unintended" Ltd Co owner/director tax perks.
You know it’s wrong to take it so how is this a real dilemma, do the right thing and don’t take it. It’s for people that genuinely need help. Your not in that bracket.
Use the money to buy a few crates of whisky. The government will get most of it back in tax and duty.
It might not 'feel' right but take the money . There's bigger businesses being offered and taking tens of thousands so our little self employed wedge is a mere pimple . The terms of acceptance say your business has to have been affected by Covid - which it has . Apart from a couple of years out travelling I've worked full time since leaving school so have contributed and never been given anything from the DHSS . I haven't a problem taking a few grand when they're still handing out billions to the EU and illegals who've travelled through several other countries to arrive here . You come across as a hard worker who needs a hand the same as anyone else, take what is offered and pay it back if they ever review your payout. I can assure you that the estimated £4 billion in fraudulent payment relates to companies who employ family and friend 'ghost' workers who never do a days work but benefit from tax allowance and dividend payments, but who were suddenly critical full time employees when free money was offered......look after yourself and your family. Take it.
According to the Government website the caveats are business being affected and the business had to continue after the payment . Loans are available for bigger businesses who have employees.. There'll be no come back although in the future we'll be taxed through the nose - take it . Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
It isn’t ‘free’ money. Not one penny if it is free....if you have kids and /or grandkids ‘we’ are harnessing them with debt when there will be fewer jobs available in their lifetimes.
Oh Rishi won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz. My friends all drive porsches, I must make amends. Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends. So oh Rishi won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz…
Virtual, national debt, not actual, personal debt. Our children will all be peasant workers so won't hit them unless a direct gruel tax is implemented. Depends if George Osborne makes a political return......
I haven't received a penny from the government since this all started, but if you meet the criteria for this payment then I see no reason not to take it, go spend it down the pub, restaurant, costa coffee, Pret, etc.
Take the money and if you still feel bad transfer it to Barry Haynes Barclays Bank sort code 12-34-56 Account number 12345659 Thank Bazza
