For the gardeners out there. Spent all summer growing a tumbling kind of tomato called gartenperle - ‘garden pearls’ I guess. Well don’t bother. They’re v pretty, tumble artfully over the side of your raised bed and have a fetching pearly finish. But they taste like sh1t and have a weird floury texture. So next year don’t make the same mistake I did! Which varieties taste nice?
Grown outdoors or greenhouse? Nearly all toms are good in gh. I haven’t got a gh so have to be careful where I grow them. Currently against a warm south facing wall. Gardeners Delight are a proven winner
Ours are only just starting to fruit. We’re a few weeks behind up here so can’t tell you whether our toms are any good yet. Been harvesting our spuds though and they’re lovely
Cover em in oil and roast them.. make a nice sauce at least then. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
Right I’ll do those next year. And outside but on a sheltered sun trappy area. Last year’s were fabulous.
Ours are still green (in the North) but massive. I don’t know what variety I just ordered whatever seeds were available on line!
Also, it depends what you feed them. A hessian bag (sandbag size) full of horse shizzle, hung in your water butt, is great liquid feed, to give them. Stinging nettles, is good too, and for beans.
I’m pretty sure I saw them supporting Flaccid Egg Plant a few years back. Or maybe it was the shrooms.... those shiitakes always give me the collywobbles
My uncle used to swear by them. Mainly when he stood on his rake Badum-tish! Although a little bit warm, coat has been fetched. They do taste nice though
