Does anyone else find themselves forever looking at projects on eBay that you probably don't need but are tempted by anyway? Spotted this single cab on my bike ride home from the workshop about 3 weeks ago, and a mate sent me a link to it on eBay last week. It's a quite far gone, but if it were super cheap I'd be tempted: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Type-...951849?hash=item1a9a4dfc69:g:3WsAAOSwG~Re5KhY
I would need a bigger garage. All the lockups and brown field sites closeby around here got turned into uber expensive housing or similarly expensive "secure storage". I should really get on with my audio projects. I have a set of Quads to rebuild along with two different valve power amps and a valve phono stage.
Its only in Wimborne, you'll be there and back in half an hour, trailer loaded, boom, a single cab saved
I know from experience (our '73) you start with a £4.5k spend, which looks good from the outset and sink a fortune into it & by then end, you have a £20k investment including the purchase. Sometimes you have to walk on by!
I'm actually keeping a spreadsheet of parts spend on the bug (gave up on the bus). Initial project cost me a grand total of £60 after I'd sold all of the bits off it I didn't need (wings, running boards etc)!
I did that with Gusbus, after he was finished, dug all the receipts out, added them up and fell off the chair With Major, that was easier as I did have quite a few useful parts left over, genuine VW in a lot of cases, the spreadsheet is not as scary either which is better on the heart
i make a point of throwing all the incidental receipts away, screws, tape, hoses etc etc. I only keep things that require a receipt, batteries etc. Helps me sleep at night.
Not the best eBay profile to be going on with? How about his other one? Or this one ..... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-1969-...a=1&pg=2332490&_trksid=p2332490.c100891.m5206 Or better still, can I interest you in a splendid LHD rolling shell? Currently "incubating" a certain roll over jig
Oh yeah saw you might be selling your project shell?! From memory of the pics I've seen it's pretty much ready to go right? Still need to pick that jig up from you at some point.
I believe my £6250 bus has cost in the region of £30k to own over 10 years. And I think my £6k boat has cost me more than £50k to own over 24 years.
