O matron I've spent the day lowering the rear of my bus 1 spline and lucky I did because the rear shocks were f. ed I only did one side I put the wheel back on to see how it looks it seems level but after measuring from the ground to the top of the wheel arch, the side I did measures 21 and the other side measures 22 only a drop of 1 inch, I thought 1 spline was a 3 inch drop My question to the experts is when I do the other side should this bring both sides down the full 3 inches, in other words is the suspension linked or are they completely independent Bazza
Both torsion bars are independant of each others. It is different of a front beam with leaves springs connecting each suspenspion arms. One torsion bar can be more "tired" than the other.
It will go down more when the other side matches. You can always measure the suspension before you pop the spring plate over the lower bump stop. You may have to rotate the torsion bar to get the unloaded positions to match. One spline is brutal. By turning the whole bar one spline inner and outer anticlockwise, it will drop about half a degree clockwise. Use a clinometer app on a phone as another way of measuring. On mine it is so far lowered that the spring plate sits 7mm above the lower bump stop with wheels off the ground.
If it was level before do the same to each side. You do need some bump stop on your rear end Bazza, you'll have to fix it. Has it gone down more after the bump stop fell off in your hand?
Right this is the story Po cut and twisted the front beam I've never liked the nose down look and today I did the above
Yes I can read. You said it only went down 1". In a later post you said aha, the bump stop fell off. So I asked whether it had gone down further now the bump stop has fallen off. TBH I never look after doing one side, I do both at the same time then put it back on the floor for a gander. Did you know if you jack the front, take off one wheel and let it down, it'll sit on the other three? Don't try that with a back wheel.
Sometimes things in text come across wrong I wasn't taking the p I was just saying what the PO had done It does look level, better than it was
