Cheers Mark, but I have fitted a new crank oil seal, it was 1mm bigger than standard, I made it fit, and now turning the engine is very very stiff. I'm going to try and start the engine tomorrow, if it doesn't turn over easy straight away, I'm dropping the engine and putting an original vw seal in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
now I do like that removable rear panel it makes fitting the engine a lot easier.... just read this thread from the beginning..... in for the long haul and nearly there and all I can say is
It won’t wear in it will wear out and could cause other damage. If the engine is tight to turn there is something wrong – and apparently you know what it is.
@Busman do you have any pics of how the removable balance bolts on? I may go back and alter mine before I get to the paint stage, it's a lot easier to get the engine out!
Hi cockers, I don't know what balance bolts are? But I'm removing the engine this afternoon, so if I can help with any pics I will. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I got the original vw seal today so out again with the engine, replaced the seal and it turns over nice and easy again. Lesson leaned. tuesday_wildchild
Awesome thread this and your attention to details is spot on busman, that's going to be a cracking ride when its done
Over the moon today, the engine was turned over for the first time since the rebuild, I have not heard it turn over in five years. We got oil pressure at 3.5 bar and compression at 125 at all four cylinders, so I am well chuffed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well it's been three years coming but Billy the Bus is mechanically finished. I will take him for MOT next week. Thank chuff! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
very very nice, looks good Byron! Once you get him mot'd, you'll have no excuse for nipping up in him for a catch up
