So inspection of sorts done! All in all its in awesome condition Other than a light layer of dust she's mint! Couldn't get it out of the garage today to do much else with it. Both front tyres were on the rims and the fuel and oil are 10 years old !!!!
Monday its being collected by the garage that is going to recommission the engine / brakes etc and carry out any work needed to get it through its test before I get her over to my house and start on a extensive rust proofing mission. Then a power management system and independent heater and elevating roof refurb before a full interior refit. All to be completed before it is to be used as our home for two weeks on our holidays beginning of July! Fingers crossed all goes well
And she was last on the road a bit longer ago than I thought it seems..... albeit it's been MOT'd since..... it was never used.
Thanks - I'm feeling very lucky today - honoured that my Dad chose me to take it on. It's amazing the emotional attachment we form with inanimate objects. Hopefully she will still be going strong in another 30 years
Just been reading about people's experiences of life with a type 2 in all the years I was ferried about in ours as a kid I never realised that my Dad was throwing fuel in at 22-4mpg yet only gives 50bhp?!? My car which they say is a guzzler does 24 mpg but produces 343bhp - I think I now have a good argument to suggest my cars engine is actually quite efficient
Exterior wise yes but perhaps with a little more chrome - interior sadly no - as it's just not a very practical layout. However it will be a sympathetic build.
Welcome aboard. Looks like a very nice van. Fantastic it's being kept in the family that's owned it for 30 years. If only my dad had kept hold of his!
It's about as close to rust free as they get Alan Schofield had a very good drink on us when I did the body / chassis resto.
