According to the JK website it's 1.7mm thick. Any thicker and it would take some cutting and rolling.
I've just ordered something called rattlemat while my interiors out, don't know what it's like though not much info on it
I added Silent coat to my 74 Westy the other day before a 300 mile round trip but only did about 40% of the panels I thought it would make a difference on and it has certainly helped. The only downside is now I am hearing window / wind noise a lot more!
Just fitted one of these silentcoat pads to each side of my rear hatch. Before it sounded like a tin dustbin when tapped, now it sounds like a plastic wheelybin.
FWIW there's no soundproofing that I'm aware of in my bus but most of the panels are lined with carpet. It's very quiet.
Put silent coat on this(only have one behind drivers seat) and the difference was really impressive - my wife was "this is great so where else in the bus can we put it?"
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SilentCoa...782236?hash=item4d20dc2d5c:g:iCwAAMXQJ3xRdq6E just found this on ebay, the sheeting has the Silent coat logo but for £54 not sure its the same stuff, you get 5m of 50cm wide though, would there be much of a difference do you think?
I got another pack of 30 x Tiles (187x265mm) 2mm Silent Coat the other week via Amazon here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NVE013I and it's £33.70 delivered at the moment
when you say another, does that mean you didn't have enough the first time? If so how much did you buy first time round? I'm trying to gauge how much Id realistically need to do the whole bus properly! looking at this pack here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SILENT-CO...AT-/121700778035?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368 to definitely cover me, then I can maybe sell on what i don't use to make some money back..?
you won't need 40 sheets at that size...infact you don't need that much silent coat/rattlemat/dynamat/etc/etc....it's diminishing returns...the more you add, the less effect each additional piece has. As mentioned previously, around a third of each panel area is sufficient. You would then be far better off using mass loaded vinyl with a decoupler...sounds techy, but it's just heavy (5kg^m) vinyl, with either an open or closed cell foam layer underneath, to reduce vibration transmission...Dodo MLV from here is great value...4.5 kg^m for £24 Dynapad is 4.8 kg^m and costs $219...just for comparison I'm guessing if you're the type of person to spend a few K on a sound system, a few hundred on sound proofing is a drop in the ocean
I have used two 30 packs via Amazon on my Westy which you could get for same price as that single pack you linked to on eBay. I have only covered a maximum of 50% of each panel with mine but I guess it's probably about 30% per panel on average and reckon I could still find space for another 30 pack if I tried For the cargo floor I have stuck some old camp mats I had on top of the silent coat to get an effect similar to that dodo MLV stuff which also recommends silent coat underneath.
I've got the 40 sheets and what ever I don't use Ill sell on on here to get some of my money back, bought it now and cant be arsed to cancel it, chase the money etc etc... so will silent coat it, then use bubble wrap insulation like thermawrap, then lay so liner carpet on top for the rear bulk head slope and the rear cargo and under the wood floor also, I might even take the carpet up and cover all exposed metal, but not sure about that yet as best results mean windows out doesn't it? also quite like the exposed metal look. thanks guys
delivery just come though for the Silent coat! itching to strip the thing asap! why does work have to get in the way of these things!
Well I'm off tut wickes for a roll of flashband this week. Far cheaper. Going on a loooooong journey soon, need some sound reduction bruv.
I'm waiting for the roller to come separately but cant get started yet any way so no rush in fact i may have one anyway, I will hunt later
