Been away for a week so time to get back on it, Got my lad involved The locker was bugging me so I emptied it out and got in there with the wire brush , Hoover packed up so dust pan and brush time! Lower floor good on the tank side of the bulkhead but not great on the locker side,
nice project ....and nice views from your garden I braze fuel tanks if there is only minor damage like pin or screw holes http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/how-to-braze-fuel-tank-repair.16314/#post-262288 ....also brazed on a new outlet union on my MG's tank when it broke off I filled my tank up with water while repairing it ....I had left it empty for a few months (just rinsed out the MG tank and refilled with water before I did it - couple of days after emptying it) I find MIG can be a bit too agressive and hot for fuel tanks personally ....and you can risk burning through and making bigger holes! ...welcome to the SMG BTW
Going well Looks ok in that locker doesn't it, another vote here for filling the tank up with water to just below where your working. Was it you that ordered big Nobly tyres for this? If you didn't you so should
Need to read all the way through from the start to fully appreciate all the work, but like the knobbly tyres! Was going to lower Tortuga, but what if I stuck with the Wella steels and had knobbly tyres... - STOP GIVING ME IDEAS AND CHANGING MY MIND!
Some progress today, just repairing bits where I can get away without replacing full panels Rear arch, rear and front of o/s. Top hat section Locker side inner sill
Couple of hours this morning, attacked and replaced the front o/s outrigger and top hat Bit of work to do yet on the end of the inner sill, bulk head and locker floor.
After a weekend away in Dent thought I'd better get back on it for an hour tonight, Don't think the edge of the locker floor is available so I've started welding up tiny rust holes, done about 20 of 200! This bulge round the closing latch is a bit of a bugger Feels like you could actually slam the lid down against it now without it falling on the floor!
Well I got fed up of welding holes in the locker floor and thought I'd have a change, Got the fuel tank on the bench and had peep inside it and could see 3 pin holes, Cleaned up the worst areas and had a poke with a small screwdriver I can now see 46 holes! Ever wish you hadn't bothered, anyone got a decent pickup tank with twin FI outlets?
