Stuart Hall - Jimmy Saville- Gary Glitter how many more ?

  1. I've heard a lot of older people saying "It was different back then. A certain amount of sexism was accepted behaviour"
Well, I wasn't around at the time, so can't really pass judgement, although the fact that it was accepted doesn't make it right...besides which, some of these nonces were using their fame and celebrity status to coerce youngsters into committing sexual acts, or permitting acts upon them, which is inexcusable, however you look at it. There's a difference between a 25 year old Ken Barlow, having sex with a 15 year old girl (albeit somewhat sordid) and the likes of Jimmy Saville regularly and systematically interfering with minors...neither is excusable, but it's wrong to tar everybody with the same peado-brush IMO.

Agreed, shame all he got from the official channels looks like stonewalling. Wonder if he was ever tempted to pay the councillor a personal visit, perhaps "appeal to his better nature"!

Looks like old Rolf Aroo was guilty.

I'm gutted as I always liked him, but justice is justice I guess.

It's funny - when people say it was a different time - I still think it was, but the kids bit, unforgivable.

  11. Police have today announced the formation of another investigative unit in Scotland Yard as a result of the Jimmy Saville affair. The unit will work under the name Operation One-In-a-Million, and it has been charged with trying to track down the one 1970's TV entertainer who hasn't committed sexual assault on minors.

Scotland Yard has projected the need to fund the unit for at least the next 10 years.

Do you think they have proper mental illnesses or are just bad people with loose morals?

  13. I suspect a lot of folk are hauled in for interview are out of sheer shame at missing Mr Savile's activities. Nothing like closing the stable door after the horse is several miles away...

  14. Me too, he was a bit of a painting hero to me when I was younger

A bit of both I imagine in varying degrees

nope, i think in all honesty they thought they could get away with groping young kids and nothing would happen, and they did for 40 years or so.

I don't think Saville had any form of illness, just a feeling of power and being untouchable and as with most 'trips' be they power or chemical, how do you get the next higher high?

As his popularity waned he turned to charity work....the way to hell is paved with good intentions....the people trapped by him I feel dreadfully sorry for.

Regarding some of the others, I think things really were different back then and part of me thinks these people has reputations in which case why did people not steer clear? Top of the pops studio is not a kids home.

We live in a time of hyper awareness.... though it *******es me off we can spend time chasing 40 year old cases but aren't prosecuting these blokes knocking up 15 year olds (and younger) left right and centre, consensual or otherwise.

I think those type of people are both mentally disturbed and have very few morals!
