Ouch

I've got something like these on mine - but mines an Aussie and they have much hotter weather and proper summers so you can understand why.

Not sure there really required over hear though.

 

I can't see them making all that much difference to the engine temperature tbh...and you can bet your last Deutschmark VW designers wouldn't have overlooked airflow when they remodelled the early to accommodate the bigger engines...
Still, folk fit all sorts of things on their buses for all sorts of reasons....some pay £1oo for a tatty old suitcase to stick on a rusty roof rack and wrap old rope round the bumpers.....each to their own I say

 

From the split to the bay they put extra intakes in, and from the early to late bay they enlarged them and unleaded burns hotter than 4 star
They've been around a while now and maybe you don't need them, I've had dubs for years and never seized an engine, but I stay on top of my maintenance.
I figure that more cooler air being pushed into my air box can't be a bad thing, and keeping my engine even a few degrees cooler will prolong the life of my engine

 

I agree, but would love to read some real life " it was this hot at 60, now it's this hot" type results. I've got a scoop on my oil cooler which keeps the oil about 10 degs cooler on a run, but it's the heads I worry about.

 

Thanks for the review @roach we need more of these from experienced owners who are willing to test stuff and share their views.

@Birdy is a great reviewer on here and if anyone else can shed light on the myriad of 'add ons' out there, great

 

And this thread just goes to show why people who actually might know a little bit about our buses get frustrated , when they see something like earz being reveiwed and liked and thanked by mods even thou the product is a waste of space and the people who opposed the validity of the product feel they have all their posts dismissed and ignored because they don't seem "nicey nice" posts

 

Lagos Taxi drivers used to drive their T2 busses with the engine lid open for extra cooling??
........They also hinged the sliding door at the rear, when it had given up sliding!

@Woody what's your problem with people airing their opinions?

 

As a personal opinion, they do nothing even down here in OZ. If I bought a bus with them already fitted I'd remove them, VW did extensive testing here in the 60's & 70's for their vehicles (hence the Donaldson Air Filter fitted to some Aussie buses).
None of the acknowledged VW experts I've spoken to here have suggested they are a good thing. None have said they're a bad thing either & if it makes you happy to have them on your bus then go ahead.

 

Nothing People did air their opinions and as I read it we're made to feel as thou they we're being nasty even thou they we're right, three mods in a row steam straight in

 

and that's the whole point of a product review, to discuss and give personal experience of using a product good and bad, rather than just one person dissing something.

That is the point of a review, it brings different things to our notice. @WoodyLubber you could say the same thing about a review of eyelids for example. You personally might not like eyelids on your bus. That doesn't change the fact that I do and I would find a review of different manufacturers eyelids useful. If it not useful to you, that's fine, It doesn't mean everyone else is wrong though.

Hands up i made a comment because the water thing concerned me and the jokey bit about the beez was something that happened to me with bees but without ears .
