Are you a make do and mend type or are you a comprehensive every angled covered pullers and stud extractor type? Do you make do with the kit you have or have an half decent kit like what I do. I have plenty of spanners. screwdrivers socket sets, jacks, bars, etc all kept in a nice tool cupboard and drawer chest. I borrow pullers and stud extractors though. What do you have and is it adequate?
I have a 3 stack tool box and collect tools as and when I need them , have all the general stuff spanners , sockets , ratchets , calliper tools etc getting a pretty good kit now
Mine is a 15 year accumulation of tools, as and when I've needed them So I have a pretty comprehensive selection!!
pretty much the same as you malc, i have the odd puller or coil spring compressors etc but they are from landy days so are big and beefy, my tools are not the cheapest but not the best, draper and the like is good enough for me.
have a set of found, borrowed and other tools, also a halfords pro set of sockets. will buy stuff as and when needed.
Mine are all over the place - still waiting to be sorted into the toolbox I bought last year. It can sometimes take me as long to find the right tool as it does to do the job. Should really get it done
I buy the best I can when I can afford the outlay for what I regard as "dead money" by that I mean I only use them on occasion, if I was in the trade no way would I buy cheap. like you I am probably happy with Draper etc.
My problem is I have many tools for work and tools at home so have to have two of something's , don't want to leave them in the garage when I need them at work
Can't beat having the right tool! I have enough mechanical stuff to do most jobs. The quality I buy depends on the amount of use I think any particular tool will get. As far as work tools I have 2 sets, some I leave on secure jobs to save time loading/unloading and the rest stay at home or on the van. First stall I visit at any show...tools
I have built up a good selection of tools over the years and tend to buy specific tools as i need them I justifying buying them by it being cheaper to buy it and do it myself than pay someone to do it
I've got a fair selection in my box at work. The other guys have more than me, but we all use each others stuff as needed. Just the basics at home for the time being, as I upgrade stuff I bring the old stuff home. It's frustrating when I fancy some spontaneous spannering at the weekend and realise the tool I want is at work. I don't do much at home anymore
I've a decent set of hand/air/electric tools from when I used to work in body work, also got plenty of cheap sacrificial stuff that I'm not fussed if it breaks, and also got loads of 1 jobs only tools that have been brought for specific jobs, eg an alternator pulley remover set springs to mind! Then there's the selection of bent screwdrivers, cut down spanners, sockets with slots cut in and adapted ex tie rods fashioned as pin removers and drifts etc
cement mixer for filler ,petrol grinder .kango for removal of filler , roof dressers for metal work, stilsons and all builders tools they work a treat.
just treated myself to a roller cab (on special offer) so i've been sorting tools out last night and this afternoon. Got a load of my Grandad's/Dad's stuff, but trying to pare it down to the basics...got enough Whitworth and imperial sh*te to start a retro tool hire shop, loads of old engineering tools as well....plus a rusty old cantilever box with VW special tools...ie job specific 'Tools" fashioned from odd bits of metal, scaff bar, ground down box spanners, chopped and bent ring spanners with slots cut in 'em....you know the ones
