Right so had a go at that panel today but struggled as the panel had stretched and was popping in and out. I don't have any oxy acetylene to heat the panel to try and shrink it back so what I did was weld big dirty blobs on the high spot to heat it, beat them back then cooled them with the airline to shrink it! And blow me it's work! :0
Little bit disappointed, started rubbing back the front panel today and found this, looks like it's h bit of a nock on the swage line but then someone has gone mental with a hammer and dolly! Then yet again cover in an impressive amount of filler! It's not the and of the world as I can soon sort it out but never nice finding more work to do
looking good daisy, how have you managed to get the sides soo straight withot filler. mine are all over the place :S
There is a little filler, think I was fortunate that the panel was nice and square in the first place tbh. Nice steady welding and dollying, I did spend a load of time knocking it into shape and shrinking metal before I filled it and flatted it off. I'm by no means am I an expert tho :/ cheers tho lets hope the rest are as good lol Got half the front rubbed back today, slow and steady wins the race!
Been away a few weeks on hol so good to be back at the bus, Back corner all prepped for primer little more filler than I had hoped but at least is not think! Even had to rope her in doors in to do some prep work :/ Had an issue with the sill under the sliding door, when I fitted the door an lined it all up I found the sill where the door seal fits wasn't square to the door so after hours of measuring and checking thing I have found the repair panel is out! So I have had to cut down the sill and adjust it so it line up with the door which is a pain! Got it lined up now and tacked just need to fill the gaps in. Slow progress the bodywork lark int it!
Got the sill all welded up and prepped for a little fill Got the front almost ready for primer =0 A couple of questions, I've got loads of little bits of surface rust that are only on the top layer as pic Am I better rubbing back till they have gone or using some converter on them? Also has anyone got any pic of a bus with body coloured bumper please?
You will need to rub them back till they are gone then you can use some converter to be safe much better than just using converter.
Use a 3m clean and strip disc on those rust surface rust spots it will clean them back to bright metal
To be honest they come out fine with some 100 grit paper as they arnt deep at all, will put some rust converter over the cleaned up areas just to be sure aswell, cheers tho
Evening been getting rather jealous of all the lovely freshly painted vans you guys have been knocking out! Happy to say I'm almost there Got one side almost done, little work left on the sill and will be there. I found another dent on the back corner which I couldn't knock out from the inside so made myself a rudimentary slide hammer with some 6mm stud and a rather large socket which I was quite please with. After So got the rest of the side done and all the openings done apart from the wheel arches Sliding door all finished off Had an issue where I think the back arch panel had a flat spot on it so when I fitted to the van it tapers in to much so I have started to cut it so I can pull it out to where it needs to be then fill the gaps. I was tempted to just fill over it but it would of ended up about 6mm thick and don't wanna cut corners now. Really trying to get her ready for paint by the end of the month :/ Oh, anyone going to Scarborough breeze in a couple of weeks?
Evening chaps and chappets, not been on for a while due to a new job but got back in the garage lately after some good inspiration of here. So got one side in primer And also the front Just got tother side to do and the interior and roof then off to paint. Got some adjustable spring plates yesterday aswell as I'm trying to get things ready to put her back together. Just looking at curtains and wondered if anybody had mad mat curtains in the busses? If so how good are they please?
Been a good morning, got my rear suspension stripped, cleaned back to bare metal then painted. Got a nice Matt finish and got a reassembled with my new adjustable spring plates :0 Bit high at the min but when she is back together think she will but just about right. Also got a special tool for undoing hub nuts, had to make/use it cos I kept just spinning the wheels. Can rent for a small charge
Looking great now daisy. Your now well ahead of me as I've been messing about with other things so my bus has taken a hit and slowed right down top work as always and can't wait to see the finished bus
