Looks like a good deal. I've got one of these, and stuck up a few words about it a while back http://www.thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/autocare-4-tress-steering-wheel-lock.11919/
You want something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Disklok-s...cessories_Safety_Security&hash=item3f27cbcf4f Yes it's massive, but once it's on, no one is doing a steering wheel swap on you!!
What size is a bay steering wheel, does the biggest DiskLok work? Says up to 44cm. (If I or my van was at home I'd measure myself!)
Shame, a disklok is no good then! I'd have bought one if they fitted as theyre Thatcham and Sold Secure approved.
Yeah I would have gone for a full cover lock, but couldn't find one that fitted. I know these can easily be taken off by cutting the wheel, but better than nothing I reckon.
Thanks Ermintrude, just ordered one for Betty. I've scoured the interweb for an alternative and these really are the only decent alternative to a diskloc. If the thief turns up armed with a steering wheel he's taking your bus regardless of what you do!
My insurance company wrote to me today saying that I have still not sent them the immobiliser declaration, I phoned them and talked to them about it saying that this is the 3rd year, they explained it was a different underwriter. Told them I didn't think that immobilisers would be much good on a vehicle of this age due to their simplicity of wiring and that I had a steering lock instead. They said ah yes I see that on your file, you dont need an immobiliser. Now If I could find a steering lock that fitted properly and that you could not turn the steering wheel with I'd fit it, the problems are the size of the wheel, how thin the rim is, and that its almost horizontal with loads of clearance round it. Are the ones that go round the pedals and steering wheel any better?
i have one of these too http://www.shirefabrications.com/shop.html#vws but let's face it, if there was a fool/thief proof device we'd all have them and buses wouldn't get stolen i'd be interested to know what security the stolen ones had in place at the time. a few have gone from locked garages so it would seem that you need additional security in there too. the person who comes up with the ultimate anti-theft solution for us will make a lot of money! quick release wheels maybe?
you're welcome. it's the cheapest i've found them and the code was just a quick google search. love looking for bargains *cue someone coming along to say they can get them cheaper*
I'd like to know too, but so would your average tea leaf so no ones going to publish that info. I've got a wireless gsm alarm in my house, gonna extend it to the garage and van, after all no wires required. I have a vibration sensor I'm going to put on the drivers door. and the usual PIR and door sensors for the garage. A van stolen not far away from me and recovered even nearer recently.
Any device which causes the scum to risk exposure for longer than they would wish is helpful and fiddling with the device might alert the neighbours but I think a a wheel clamp is probably the best option to prevent vans being dragged on to a transporter, which the pedal device would not prevent.
seller get`s another key cut ,he knows your address.... maybe simpler than unbolting the steering wheel...
Put the van in gear & then fit pedal device, maybe this would make it difficult to drag onto a low loader?
Arrived today, with a bit of luck and the help of the wheel clamp it will help keep Betty where I left her!
